Where to start?

Hi Ya'll,

I am diagnosed with crohn's for about 1.5 years (terminal ileum), likely had it for many years prior. I am thinking of starting a diet. Debating SCD vs. Paleo. Where do I start?

I stumbled upon this website, wondering if anyone has any thoughts on this resource. https://aiplifestyle.com/

Thanks.

I had to trial and error everything I ate. Food diary helped with narrowing down what I could eat. crohnsnhope.com is where I put down everything that helped me along the way. Good Luck!

There are two reasons that diet helps, one is the removal of 'foods' that are doing you harm and the other is boosting nutrition in what you do eat.

Paleo is definitely where you want to end up, but which elimination diet you use to get there is up to you.

SCD, GAPS and AIP are elimination diets where all foods that might be be harmful (according to the opinion of that diet) are removed and then some are reintroduced after an elimination phase to see if they are tolerated.

Here's the thread, lots of the failings and alternatives and approaches and links

Ask if you have questions

Something sensible like "Perfect health diet" is where you want to end up, but only after some sort of elimination diet.

SCD is a great way to start because there is an introductory stage and reintroduction stages. There are plenty of resources and support available online and for free.
On the downside it is a pretty rigid and dogmatic diet that relies on 1950's 'science'.

I'd recommend starting with that and modifying to paleo (which is 98% the same)

So I am finally thinking about starting a diet approach. I have been in remission for 2 years, and then recently had a flare. Seems like the flare is in my colon because previously entocort worked, and now only uceris works, which targets the colon. Luckily it seems like the uceris is controlling things. Should I start with SCD diet?

Just my experience— Diagnosis 2009: steroids Remicade & Imuran with no huge relief. I started on SCD in 2011 and within 4 months was weaning off the meds and have been off since. I think managing mind-body (stress reduction is just as important Paleo wasn’t mainstream when I started. Eventually mainly shifted to autoimmune paleo. Probiotic every day.
