Role of diet in prevention versus treatment of Crohn’s disease and ulcerative colitis

I guess we will agree to disagree :P it seems low compared to the weight but remember, there is a lot of water in this, both directly, as well as in all the fruits - to get my daily calorie needs, I would need 2+ smoothies, landing me with around 30g fiber daily. Most adults in Western societies...

Role of diet in prevention versus treatment of Crohn’s disease and ulcerative colitis

I guess what I meant by surprising, is that the wholefood based formula used in the study (recipe is at the appendix) contains very significant amount of fiber (and FODMAPs too btw). Which is in line with my own experience (I am doing better with fiber than without) but not with some other...

Role of diet in prevention versus treatment of Crohn’s disease and ulcerative colitis

Agree, that would be great. Especially that nutrition has A LOT of effect on my inflammation, both positively and negatively. And even those who "fail" EEN when I do find some people here and there online, they tend to report that it just didn't work, not that it made them feel much much worse...

Role of diet in prevention versus treatment of Crohn’s disease and ulcerative colitis

Thought I will share a recept experience of mine, once I have been doing this for longer time I will make a separate post about it. As some of you may know I have exclusively ileal disease without any medication, but EEN never worked for me, in fact it significantly worsened my symptoms, and I...

    I am now in remission

Aituk, could you share your MRE results with personal identifiers removed? It may help others believe that PKD approach could genuinely work and is worth a try. Even better if you also share a previous MRE where results were worse, if you do have that.

bacillus coagulans, bacillus subtilis, other strains for ibd

Quite disappointing that the first study talks about IBD and then when I actually check the details, it was really only done on UC. Probiotics are notorious for not improving, or sometimes even worsen Crohn's symptoms, so based on current info, I dont even feel like giving this a try.

    1973. Intravenous alimentation.

What I dont get in all this - if I get a strep throat, or even something as bad as C Diff, you get antibiotics - yes sometimes for complicated stuff you get many rounds of cocktails etc - but once its done, its done, you are healed. Of course you may get infected again but more likely than not...

First JAK Inhibitor Approved by FDA for Treatment of Crohn's

Completely unrelated topic, but the other day I was wondering about how on Earth is it possible that even for really good drugs like anti TNF-s, the difference between “no treatment whatsoever” and “placebo” is often just as big, or even bigger than “placebo” and the “effective drug”. E.g. in...

Molecular and Phenotypic Characterization of Escherichia coli Associated with Granulomatous Colitis of Boxer Dogs

wouldn't this be super easy to prove? as in, we know Crohn's occurs in the TI and large bowel - so why not just make a (temporary) surgery of cutting the small intestine before the terminal ileum, and connect it to a stoma bag? If your theory is correct, that should essentially cure Crohn's...

Molecular and Phenotypic Characterization of Escherichia coli Associated with Granulomatous Colitis of Boxer Dogs

My CRP and sed rate stay at rock bottom whatever happens to my Crohn’s, so it’s not very indicative in my case. Even at diagnosis it was super normal. I am a curious case though as EEN also makes things worse for me. I dont think carnivore made it worse, perhaps it did reset my gut enough that...

Molecular and Phenotypic Characterization of Escherichia coli Associated with Granulomatous Colitis of Boxer Dogs

What you say makes complete sense to me. We are probably missing something crucial piece of the puzzle though. For example on a carnivore diet my calpro for 2 weeks remained exactly the same, 2000ish, although carbs and fiber was 0. Then when I introduced peanut butter and chestnuts...

Molecular and Phenotypic Characterization of Escherichia coli Associated with Granulomatous Colitis of Boxer Dogs

What goes against my theory though is the seemingly complete lack of effectiveness of probiotics in Crohn's disease. But I think probiotics have a doubtful clinical significance at best - perhaps they are just not very good at altering the microbiome in general, or not very good at altering them...

Molecular and Phenotypic Characterization of Escherichia coli Associated with Granulomatous Colitis of Boxer Dogs

I tend to agree with you on this, but, I think microbiome does have some sort of role. I am thinking, what if CDED and SCD (both of them containing plenty of fiber, in fact SCD is even called the "banana diet") tend to work so well? What if its not just the EEN way of starving a bad pathogen...

From ASCA breakthrough in Crohn's disease and Candida albicans research to thirty years of investigations about their meaning in human health

Interesting. I have ileal Crohn's, am celiac too, and am ASCA negative. But then again, I am a bit of a curious case, with limited symptoms, so far mild disease, and I react negatively to EEN. Perhaps there is a link between EEN and ASCA?

Please help! Need help with SCD -- still seeing blood/mucus in stool after 3 months of the diet

How interesting! I feel horrible from any form of coconuts but smooth 100% peanut butter has grown to be the main source of energy for me, I eat it with everything and have actually entered symptomatic remission since I consume it. I have Ileal Crohn's though, and loosely follow SCD. Glad to...

Please help! Need help with SCD -- still seeing blood/mucus in stool after 3 months of the diet

Anecdotically I heard of many people for whom SCD was helpful for UC. There is a group on facebook “breaking the vicious cycle” that you should check out. In fact SCD was developed by Elaine for her daighter who had UC. I think it wouldnt be hard to explain why it works for some ppl - if we...

EEN makes things worse - any advice?

btw @kiny if the main EN principle is ensuring good nutrition status of the patient + depriving ileal pathogens nutrition in parallel, wouldn't we expect a truly row residue diet, like lion's diet, or chicken breast + salmon + eggs + lactose (and carb) free cheese type of diet, to be similarly...

    I am now in remission

I recommend regularly checking calprotectin and probably CRP too (you have to figure out which one shows his inflammation best (which one was high on diagnosis), and do a food journal for symptoms (e.g. what he ate, when, what supplements, and how many stools with what consistnecy) to notice...
