    Parent of newly diagnosed kid

Thanks for all that info. Very useful to know. The more we have in the armoury, the better. So.... There is some good news. We are starting to see some improvement. We've added salofalk or mesalamine foam enemas at night and we may be glimpsing a start for humira kicking in. There is a little...

@crohnsinct just saw your post. Gonna ask them to check levels. I sent them some data on j's activity during the week and they seemed to see some control coming into play. I don't see it personally. I can't remember him being worse. Also, stopping eating can effect number of poos. Maybe they...

    Parent of newly diagnosed kid

Hey everyone, great advice there. Much appreciated. Been a stressful few days. Poor J has had a cough and he started running a fever. He woke up on Thursday hallucinating, talking to ppl who weren't in the room. Myself and my wife were freaked out as you could imagine. Unfortunately, as the...

    Parent of newly diagnosed kid

Thanks for the reply @my little penguin ... We are trying to get J to take at least 2 shakes a day from today. He has been refusing since he stopped EEN but I think he is desperate to feel better than he does right now. He's taking fortisip and chocolate is the only flavour he will attempt. He...

    Parent of newly diagnosed kid

Hi Thought I'd introduce myself. My 12 year old son has been diagnosed with Crohn's 6-8 weeks ago. Jude also has type 1 diabetes which he was diagnosed with at 7 years old. J tried EEN but couldn't keep it up as he seemed to be getting worse and losing weight on it. J stopped 8 days in...

My 12 year old son has just started Humira...

@crohnsinct Yeah, I had a bad time of it about 15 years ago. Had fistulae and went through all the biologics (at the time). It took a few years to get right but with steroids, imuran, asacol (probably useless but they put you on these things and they are reluctant to take you off) i got on the...

My 12 year old son has just started Humira...

@crohnsinct he had a rough day yesterday. Just hoping today is better. We're keeping a diary for the hospital and will get back to them on Monday. We'll be 3 weeks into humira on Monday. The hospital are just telling us to wait. Basically, there is nothing they can do in between. Frankly, it's...

My 12 year old son has just started Humira...

So sorry to hear that. Jude is also getting worse. Had his second dose yesterday. He feels he can't eat today so we're maybe getting close to a hospital stay. Up multiple times during the night.

Hey @crohnsinct How is your daughter getting on? I hope she is starting to feel some benefit. I have my fingers crossed for you...

My 12 year old son has just started Humira...

So... this is quite interesting. Last Monday week he went into hospital to get his Mantoux test results and his first shot of Humira. He was really very poorly. He'd lost 2 kilos (4 1/2 pounds) the previous week on the EEN which was on top of 4 kilos in the previous 3 or 4 weeks. He couldn't...

My 12 year old son has just started Humira...

We were using Fortisip shakes. There are lots of flavours but he settled on Chocolate as the only one he would keep going with. I'm based in Ireland and I think we have Ensure here too. I had a couple of the rejected flavours as well and I thought they were fine. How I would feel drinking them...

My 12 year old son has just started Humira...

Thanks for the response. Unfortunately, poor Jude has type 1 diabetes since he was 7 and steroids are really problematic. They make you insulin resistant and leave you with extremely high blood sugars. He really needs some kind of bridging therapy but for now we are just waiting. He would have...

My 12 year old son has just started Humira...

... and I was wondering how long it would take to start working. He has what looks initially like Ulcerative Colitis but could be Crohn's disease as I have Crohn's. He got started 10 days ago. I have my fingers and toes crossed that this works as he has failed on EEN.

    Gene breakthrough

It sounds interesting. The size of the study i.e. 90,000 people would give you some hope that there is some merit to it. I have ordered some of the MitoQ from New Zealand. It cost €70 to ship 30 capsules... effectively this stuff is a bio-available version of COQ10 or Ubiquinol from my googling...

    FECAL TRANSPLANTS: A Guide

Hi all, I think I am going to give this a shot - maybe DIY style at home. I've had Crohn's Colitis for 32 years. Originally, I was diagnosed with UC but that was changed to Crohn's when I got fistulae 8 years ago. Not doing too bad at the moment but would love to be able to eat what I wanted...

How quick should predfoam make ANY difference?

It always works for me very quickly. I have a lot of anal disease and towards the end of the colon...

    Has anyone tried "Reiki"?

Like all energy therapies, acupuncture etc. it can increase your wellbeing to a certain extent but it is not an 'acute' treatment but more of a lifestyle thing. Basically, if you look after your energy, it will look after you. Don't expect instant miracles healthwise because you won't get them...

    Stoma

Shitballs, eh? The old farting... At least now I will have an excuse for not holding in. Is this farting a regular occurrence? The answer will not be any reflection on you. I know you're a lady :-)

So what does 'dealing with stress' mean anyway?

Definitely try meditation. I find stress builds over a period whether it is caused by work or whatever. I you meditate or do breathing excercises every day for even 20 minutes it resets the clock on that build and helps you look at the world in a more relaxed manner. Tai Chi and Yoga are good...
