    Any avid tea drinkers?

Tea is my favourite drink. Ive cut down on he number of cups and now have 4 a day. Plus I sip from my water bottle all day long to keep hydration. My favourite tea is Yorkshire. I'm from Australia and English relatives call it builders tea. Strong with skim milk. Perfect. I've just introduced my...

What are your tips for thickening up your output?

Any soluble fibre will help thicken output. Google soluble fibre and see what fits in with your diet. Soluble fibre soaks up liquid and is what products like metamucil are made of. Seems strange to take a product developed for constipation to help decrease excess output but it does work...

    Ostomies In The Wild

Fabulous idea. Too often we allow our ostomies to restrict what we do (guilty). Obviously it depends on how well your ostomy behaves or rather how few problems you have with it but I think we would all be surprised that ostomies should not limit anything you want to do.

Brava Elastic Barrier Strips Refuse Stay Stuck

I love brava elastic tape. It has saved me so many times. Strangely though I have no luck with coloplast bags sticking yet they are the same brand. I guess it all depends on your skin type but a mystery as to why some things work and others don't.

    Two separate stomas

I have one stoma but the lower part of my bowel is attached at the side and while mostly I'm not aware of it sometimes when my bag is overfill at night with gas or output it will push down the "downpipe". Then I can pass gas or worse in the normal way or when i change my bag output will ooze up...

    Transverse colostomy

Hi Ozboz and welcome to the forum. I'm not sure what a transverse is but as your main problem is getting your weight up i'd suggest using ensure which is a high protein high calorie drink available from chemists or you may be able to get it through your hospital. Two cal is another one but i...

    Blu ecig

So was the ecig causing all your problems or just ones after you stopped cigs? Do you still have crohns? I stopped smoking real cigs in June 2012 and got my second stoma in December of that year after a long hospital stay (nearly 5 months). Anyway since then I've had no more Crohns tummy pains...

    Ostomy clothes vs. Maternity Cloths

The ones I bought are low with an over the bump stretchy bit that yes went up to my boobs too. I just find the low bit really uncomfortable around my lower abdomen and they cut the bag in half if i have them tight enough not to fall off and they get too baggy in the legs. But I haven't really...

    Pilates anyone?

Hi Grotbags, Thanks for your response. I have tried other pouches and keep coming back to my welland one which is very flexible. Although I will try the Mio as if it is as anything near as stretchy as the coloplast elastic tape it must be good. That tape has saved me many a time! :) Yoga is a...

    Crohns Disease and Peripheral Neuropathy

i've had peripheral neuropathy for years but it has become worse in the last two years so much so that I didn't even realise I had fractures in my foot. I cant wear thongs (flipflops) anymore as I haven't enough sensation to keep them on. I find it worse at night and can definitely identify...

    Pilates anyone?

Ok, here is the problem. Besides being 20 kilos overweight (44lbs), I look like I am 9 months pregnant with twins (and I have been there). I have a very large hernia above and to left of ileostomy and am unable to walk or cycle for exercise as I have 3 fractures in my foot that are not healing...

    Stoma Support Group

Hi Hope123, The first few months with ileostomy are very trying but things do start to settle down. I had nightmares with mine in the beginning. Call all the companies that supply ostomy products and get them to send out samples that may suit you - the people you speak to are trained to help and...

    Ostomy clothes vs. Maternity Cloths

In summer I live in dresses - not maternity ones although I look nine months pregnant anyway. A woman asked me the other day when my baby was due,,,,,,,rather than getting upset I laughed and thanked her for the compliment as I am 53. It helped ease her embaressment and there is no point in me...

    Ostomy clothes vs. Maternity Cloths

I find maternity jeans a great idea but have yet to find the right pair. I have a very large tummy and very skinny legs. I bought some skinny maternity jeans and while they were good as far as the stretchy bit goes, the actual waist band still cut my bag in half. I'll try wearing my bag on the...

    Overweight with Crohn's Support Group

Yay, a group for weighty crohnies. I used to be a good weight no matter what I ate. Since being diagnosed with crohns my weight went up and down then up and up. i have a very overactive ileostomy - food goes thru pretty well undigested but still manages to leave the calories behind. How does...

    Stoma Support Group

Apples are the best for me for slowing down and thickening my output. Also, rice crackers, bananas and metamucil. Just about any soluble fibre food will help as they absorb liquid. If you google soluble fibre you can find foods you like and see if they help you. As usual be careful, particularly...

    Menopause

I finally went on HRT last month after a blood test shoed I had zero oestrogen. Yes zero! I was very hopeful it would stop the awful sweating, aches and pains depression etc etc but so far to no avail. Maybe I need more time..... However while researching what else could be causing the sweating...

Testing foods with a new ileostomy

Its obviously different for everyone but I found that foods that gave me problems when I first got my ileo don't now. I think over time the bowel adapts and you may find that in the future you can eat foods that are now causing you problems. Could you be lactose intolerant? just a thought since...

Ileostomy surgery tomorrow - relieved, excited and a little intrigued!!

Pretty much the same as you. Stuck on 10mg of pred, FAT, and still have bottom problems but they seem to be resolving with tacrolimus ointment. fingers crossed. Do you think you developed antibodies to humira by starting and stopping it? Also I discovered the antidepressant I was on...
