    Knee Swelling

I appreciate your help so far! Definitely helps to have this community throughout this process! I am two weeks post initial stelara infusion. Currently on entocort 6mg, pred 5mg, and lialda 2.4mg. I still have knee swelling. I am trying to come off the Prednisone but the knee swelling gets...

    Alternative Medicine

Anyone try alternative, complementary therapy. For instance LDA therapy? (Low dose antigen therapy). I had a consultation with this integrative medicine doc, and feel like this is a whole bunch of snake oil. Wondering what your thoughts are.

    Ustekinumab infusion duration

I chose it because I thought it had the least side effects. No side effects so far...just mild headaches rarely, although that could be associated with the low dose prednisone I am on.

    Stelara

Sorry to hear about the infusion reaction. It happens. For stelara infusion reactions are pretty rare.

    Knee Swelling

After my initial infusion of Stelara I feel completely fine. Wondering if there was actually any medication in the infusion haha. So any improvement in joint swelling might take up to 6 months???

    Stelara

Just had my first stelara infusion today. How long until I should expect maybe some improvement in knee swelling?

    Knee Swelling

Anyone had any luck with Stelara for knee swelling? Long story short, my battle with Crohn's began with unexplained knee swelling. 3 years later I have been diagnosed with crohn's. I am currently on low dose prednisone, but am hoping that Stelara would help with my knee swelling. Any thoughts...

    Dangers, Side Effects

Thank you for the informative post. Ultimately, I chose stelara. My crohn's specialist said I could go with either anti-TNF or stelara (she preferred anti-TNF). Even though anti-TNF are firstline biologics, I am just not comfortable with the safety profile at this point. It seems that stelara...

    Dangers, Side Effects

Thank you for your informative post Maya142. I tried one steroid shot a long time ago, and it only lasted for a few weeks. Also, steroid shots are VERY bad for the joint, especially that I am young. My crohn's is relatively under control right now with entocort, but that is not a maintenance...

    Dangers, Side Effects

I chose stelara because it has a better safety profile than the anti-TNF inhibitors.

    Dangers, Side Effects

thank you for your reply "my little penguin." I am seeing a rheumatologist. Both the crohn's doc and rheum are on the same page. The rheumatologist recommended I try sulfasalazine first, but the crohn's doc thought it would not be effective for my ileitis. However, both agree that Stelara might...

    Dangers, Side Effects

Is Stelara really as safe as it seems? I am thinking of starting stelara, as my physician does not think that sulfasalazine will work in my situation with arthritis. What are your thoughts? Its a relatively new drug and a biologic, but it seems like there are few side effects. Am I missing...

    Stelara Vs. Sulfasalazine

Thank you for your reply. This is really a personal choice, as my doctor's have explained to me. I already have knee damage, as I had a meniscal tear from long standing knee swelling. The only thing that scares me about biologics is the chance of fatal infections.

    Stelara Vs. Sulfasalazine

Methotrexate has a lot more side effects than sulfasalazine and stelara. What do you think about trying sulfasalazine for a month, and then switching to stelara if it doesn't work. Although based on the side effect profile, sulfasalazine seems to have a lot of side effects too, even more than...

    Stelara Vs. Sulfasalazine

Yes, I am seeing a rheumatologist. She thinks that sulfasalazine might work, but the crohn's expert thinks it won't and that I should go on Stelara. Tough choice.

    Stelara Vs. Sulfasalazine

Thank you for your reply Maya. The reason they are starting with Stelara is that it is the biologic with the least side effects. So you think it is not worth trying Sulfasalazine?
