    Abscess and Crohns

Hi Everyone, My son as diagnosed with a mild case of Crohn's 16 months ago. It was isolated to the final inch of his terminal ileum. He had absolutely no symptoms or signs but his growth slowed and then stopped. He didn't gain weight fo 2 years. Since beginning pentasa, his iron normalized...

    Removing wicking material after drainage!!

Thanks for the info. I don't think he did a swab. That will be a good question for our follow up on Tuesday. He said it wasn't very deep and that the tissue around it looked very healthy. Maybe that is a good sign...I guess like everything with this...time will tell! Thanks again and glad...

    Removing wicking material after drainage!!

Thanks, he ended up doing it himself. It hurt but he got over it quicky! How long until the tissue looks normal again. He isn't really having any drainage. It looks a lot less red but I can still see some redness and a little swelling. Thanks again!

    Removing wicking material after drainage!!

Hi Everyone, I need help!!! My son had an abscess drained last night. They told him to just take out the wicking material this morning before he showered. He did take out some padding but when I looked after his shower, I could see there was a piece of the wicking material. I tried to pull...

    Peri-anal abscess

Thanks for the feedback. His Pedi did ask me to let the GI know the antibiotic he prescribed to make sure it is the right thing so perhaps he will switch him to Flagyl and Cipro. I will definitely make sure we connect with him today based on your comments. He is a professor as well and can be...

    Peri-anal abscess

Hi Everyone, My son was diagnosed with Crohn's isolated to his terminal ileum 15 months ago. He had a lot of peri-anal pain yesterday and when I looked last night, it did not look like a hemorrhoid like I suspected since this has happened in the past. I took him to the pediatrician today who...

    Undiagnosed Kids

My son loves boost. I the tried equate (walmart brand) and he liked them even better. They are less expensive so I was thrilled. You can get boost plus or equate plus and it adds some extra calories and protein as well. If he is willing, we gave him one right before bed when he wasn't able...

    Crohns with no symptoms?

Mild Crohn's can effect growth depending on the location and blood levels. Chronic inflammatory diseases cause a low IGF-1 which my son had. This is what maes growth hormone work for linear growth. Interestingly it is also low with poor diets and anorexia. Crohns will effect growth in...

    Crohns with no symptoms?

Feel free to share my son's story. He was very short and stopped growing at a normal pace around age 11. From 13 to 13.5 he didn't grow at all. We started doing work up on him because of his growth chart decline over 2 years on the recommendation of our pediatrician. He had NO abnormal bowel...

    Undiagnosed Kids

Thanks, I did email his doctor through this great system they have at our children's hospital. He already got back with me. He said that they took several iron measures and all were normal so it was time for him to stop the iron! I guess we will do it and I imagine he will be re-tested at some...

    Iron and C-reactive protein levels?

We have not stopped taking the iron prior to testing. I don't think that iron bood levels would be effected by that because it takes such a long period to build up in the blood but I will ask if we missed something. They did test his B12 intially and it was normal. His Vit D was as well. Thy...

Newbie on BoardHi All, I'm a 43 year old male who has CD since the age of 10.

Hi Matt, I am so glad that it seems you caught this early and have heard the same treatment plan from both doctors! It could be that both of them will be equally effective for your surgery. I have worked in healtcare for 25 years as a physical therapist and I always advise my patients to ask...

    Alternates of Pentasa?

Check with your doctor. My son also has mild Crohns and is on Pentasa. I believe they told us at the time that he could also take Asacol. I think it effects the same region of the GI Tract as Pentasa (ascending colong and ileum). It would be worth trying as long as you make sure to pay...

    Crohns with no symptoms?

It is amazing to me how many hockey players there are on this forum with Crohns! All 3 of my sons play hockey and my husband coaches. Of course, playing hockey in Canada is a given but not in Colorado! Our clinic did tell us that our son would only use the NG tube at night and re-insert each...

    Crohns with no symptoms?

I know our clinic in the U.S. (also a large teaching hospital with an IBD clinic) offers the option to kids who require steroids. I think some of this is cultural in the U.s. I know that if they recommended steroids for our son, we would have gone the enteral nutrition route because his only...

    Crohns with no symptoms?

I wonder if it is more common in kids to have no GI symptoms. I see you live in Roanoke. My brotheer used to live in Lynchburg so I have been to Roanoke!

    Crohns with no symptoms?

We have had the NG feeds on the back burner if the current treatment doesn't work as well as we hope. I was thinking that at our next appt in May, I will ask about them if he is not catching up as much as we would like. I thought it would be easier to start as the school year ends. He has had...
