    Two year old with symptoms

My son was diagnosed with Very early onset of Crohn's disease. I wouldn't tell you about his treatment plan for now because it is imperative that you wait for your son's diagnosis and take time to process it. Your pediatric gastro should be able to guide you. What I can tell you is that in my...

    Two year old with symptoms

Hi @sssm8719 - I think it is very important to get the correct diagnosis and have a pediatric gastro who understands and is going to work with you. Whether it is Crohn's or UC, should be revealed soon. Process it and take your time. My son's pediatric gastro had stated that it will be a long...

    Two year old with symptoms

Hi @sssm8719 - any update or progress in your son's case. Are the doctor's any closer to a diagnosis. Here is a link I found where the doctors were not particularly helpful. https://www.abc.net.au/news/health/2024-06-07/inflammatory-bowel-diseases-children-australia/103902842. Sometimes, the...

Genetic variants and crohn's disease. Some perspective.

Hi @kiny - I am also coming around to the view that genetics is not a reason for the increase in incidence of Crohn's disease. I came across this article in ABC News https://www.abc.net.au/news/health/2024-06-07/inflammatory-bowel-diseases-children-australia/103902842. As per this, the rate of...

    Major cause of IBD found?

If we assume that the hypothesis - AIEC and genetic defect cause Crohn's disease is correct, then it seems that a cure is not in sight in the years to come. First because there is no cure for AIEC and no cure for genetic defects. It is a feeling of helplessness.

Crohn's discovery could lead to better treatments for devastating condition

Actually, we have had quite a number of discussions on this. It is hard to state if gut microbiome is impacted due to Crohn's or the other way around. I suspect that Crohn's breaches the epithelial wall integrity and causes leaky gut and thereby causing imbalance of gut microbiome.

    Major cause of IBD found?

@Scipio - Thanks for your response. And it seems a plausible explanation that it could be a combination of AIEC along with genetics. The research stated that they are looking at trials in 5 years time. That is a long time. Why should it take that long to test it? Shouldn't they start conducting...

    Major cause of IBD found?

While the research is interesting and promising, I think we should all wait and watch. @kiny - What are your views on it? I think this research shows the root cause as a genetic problem. This seems to be at odds with AIEC being a possible root cause.

    Two year old with symptoms

@my little penguin - Thank you for tagging me. @sssm8719 - So sorry that you are going through this. The first step and the most important step would be to find a pediatric gastroenterologist who is willing to find the root cause. Not all pediatric gastros are alike and you need to find someone...

Lab-grown ‘mini guts’ could aid in custom Crohn’s disease treatment

I think the big challenge is that many a times the research looks promising but the time from research to a viable treatment option can take years and maybe decades and that too, if there is enough funding by a pharmaceutical company and enough dedication by the researcher.

Lab-grown ‘mini guts’ could aid in custom Crohn’s disease treatment

I came across this link. https://interestingengineering.com/health/lab-grown-mini-guts-treatment-crohns-disease I hope they can come up with a treatment option soon.

methotrexate, inflectra, remicade are drugs for dysbiosis

methotrexate, inflectra, remicade are drugs for dysbiosis

I agree with @my little penguin . It seems that cheka is stating the same thing over and over again and in multiple threads. A lack of response from other members is making him feel that he is dominating. If this was so easy then by now the medical science would have cured Crohn's disease by...

Thanks for your response. How can we measure the integrity of epithelial wall of the intestines? Is there a nin-invasive test such as an ultrasound?

Molecular and Phenotypic Characterization of Escherichia coli Associated with Granulomatous Colitis of Boxer Dogs

@kiny - Is it possible that AIEC can still be there in pasteurized milk? My son was diagnosed around the age of 1.5 years when his primary diet was milk.

Molecular and Phenotypic Characterization of Escherichia coli Associated with Granulomatous Colitis of Boxer Dogs

@kiny - Actually Stanford university had done some clinical trials on FMT in pediatric patients with Crohn's disease. I don't have a link to the study now. However, the trials were stopped because the outcomes were slightly worse. Likewise Boston Children's hospital doesn't do FMT in Crohn's...

Molecular and Phenotypic Characterization of Escherichia coli Associated with Granulomatous Colitis of Boxer Dogs

This entire thread has been very informative. It explains why Crohn's is a progressive disease and why the body finds a way around the medications. And because of this reason, I despair because the medical science is nowhere near closer to a cure.
