    FODMAP Journey

We are 5 weeks into the diet and things are much improved. He has felt good for 17 days!!!:dance::dance::dance::dance::dance::dance: I can't be certain that it is the diet that is responsible for the change but who can be certain about anything with this disease. :ybatty: He has...

Trying EEN for the first time

Bribery, rewards, whatever you want to call it worked well for us. My son really wanted pet piranhas so we promised to get him a large fish tank and some piranhas when he finished EEN. He spent meal times researching how to set up the tank, etc. It worked quite well, except now I have...

10 yr old daughter just diagnosed with Crohn's

:welcome: Becky Sorry to hear your daughter has been diagnosed with Crohn's but I'm glad you have found the forum. My son was also diagnosed when he was 10 years old, he's 12 now. It is really hard to watch your child deal with an illness that you can't make better. I too try to schedule my...

    FODMAP Journey

We have tried Udi's GF sandwich bread. My son doesn't mind it for toast but so far won't eat a sandwich made with it. Stores around here don't seem to carry the whole Udi's line only a few products. I don't think I've seen the pizza shells. We have found GF English muffins by Glutino that...

Trying EEN for the first time

I don't know, we never had an issue with getting it past the stomach valve. He would swallow water as he put it in but I think that was to get it past epiglottis. Once it was past the epiglottis it would just kind of slide right down as he kept feeding the tube into his nose. I imagine the...

Trying EEN for the first time

I also think tube size makes a BIG difference. My son also used a 6 Fr sized tube. We were also told to removed the guide wire from the tube BEFORE he inserted it. By removing the wire the tube is super soft and flexible, very similar in size and feel to a piece of spaghetti.

    Need your opinions-We're having problems

So glad to hear that things are taking a turn for the better and that you guys are home. I have wondered about this with my own son. We have issues with chronic pain and I think sometimes my son anticipates the pain and then gets the pain. It is so hard to know if the anticipation of the...

    FODMAP Journey

We are still hanging in there with the diet. This past week was WAY better. He has actually felt good for 9 days in a row now!!!!!!! The one thing I changed was his probiotic. Our pediatrician suggested switching the probiotic as there is some research that suggests that cycling through...

    Immunisations

My son had the meningococcal c vaccine last year. It was not a live vaccine so it was fine for him to have. I don't think the Diphteria,Tetanus and Polio vaccine is live either. We had to refuse the Chicken Pox vaccine as that one was live. I am a firm believer in getting all vaccines...

Trying EEN for the first time

My son was allowed clear liquids and a small amount of hard candies (ie Lifesavers) or gummy bears. For clear liquids he had things like pop, iced tea, apple juice and clear broths. I find it curious that all of these items are high in FODMAPS. Perhaps that is why we didn't see a big...

    Juvenile Arthritis Questions

    1. My son has Enthesitis-Related Arthritis 2. Symptoms are pain where the ligaments and tendons insert into the bone. This has been in his hip and his heel. When it is bad he has to use crutches to walk. 3. He has been put on prednisone twice for arthritis flares. Dosages and tapers are...

    Meckel's Scan

Have any of your kids had a Meckel's Scan done? Our pediatrician has ordered this scan for my son. She is looking for any weird and wonderful things that might be causing my son's unexplained abdominal pain, such as a Meckel's diverticulum.

    FODMAP Journey

More FODMAP friendly food items... GF bread can make a fabulous grilled cheese sandwich. Betty Crocker GF vanilla cake and added lemon zest in the cake and a lemon juice + sugar syrup on top.

    FODMAP Journey

This week didn't go so well. Currently having a lactose tolerance test done. Losing confidence that the diet will work. Starting to think that the psychological component in this all is playing a greater role. He just seems to fold whenever he starts to feel unwell.

    FODMAP Journey

Green leaf lettuce. I only give him the softer bits on the end of the leaf and don't let him have too much (ie he probably only has about 1 leaf max per sitting).

    FODMAP Journey

So last week we had 3 full days of school then DS started to feel terrible on Wednesday night and missed Thursday and Friday of school. I was discouraged because we have been very strict with the diet. I'm not entirely sure he hasn't been sneaking banned foods but I don't think he has. I...

    Worrying about the future

This has been a worry for me the last month or so too. It is just so horrible when they aren't feeling well and there is no clear cut path to getting them feeling better.

    Tomatoes?

If you buy into the FODMAP theory it might be the onions and garlic in the Bolognese sauce and ketchup causing problems. Onions are high in fructans which can be hard for people to digest. According to the FODMAP diet onions and garlic, even in minute quantities, should be avoided. I haven't...
