MTX and maybe Humira for The Little Farm Girl

My son had lots of reactions to his infusion/injection/blood draw sites. It's calmed down a lot as he responded to treatment. We did determine he was having a reaction to the rubbing alcohol, so that could be it too. Does it respond to benadryl cream on it?

Remicade and 6MP or remicade and methotrexate? Need help deciding please.

I totally understand, I freaked and got my son off 6mp asap when he started Remicade. And Remicade works well on its own too, but he developed antibodies.. I guess I would suggest staying on 6mp since he's already on it, without issues, right? changing to methotrexate will take time to build up...

    16 year old just diagnosed

Prunes! About the only thing I can think. Lots and lots of water too. Ask her doc what he suggests too. Miralax is pretty gentle, softener vs laxative. Good luck!

    Hot flashes

Thanks for posting, I was just looking for info since my son just had a first time hot flash tonight, strangest thing... we were a day late on his Humira because I somehow totally forgot last night. And he's had a cold for a week or so, but no fevers. Before dx, he'd have night sweats, only knew...

To remicade or not to remicade...that is the question!

Absolutely, do Remicade. I was hesitant to start too, everyone is, it's crazy scary, but it can be quite a miracle. Best of luck!

    Tonsil stones

Interesting indeed. My son didn't have these (that I know of), but did have his tonsils and adenoids out at age 2 for chronic infections.

Is it ok to change remicade schedule?

Better to move it earlier than later. We had to move one of my son's up a week one time, and then just stayed on the normal schedule from that date. So hard to fit everything in, I know! Best of luck on the wisdom teeth.

Do these symptoms match anyone else's?

My son had a lot of mucus output as a baby, wasn't dx til age 8 though. It sounds more like a food sensitivity, maybe wheat. Have they checked for celiac? Any results back?

    504 plan

I had no issues starting the 504 at my son's grade school. However, the principal never put it in the "system" and so the counselor at the middle school had no idea. I had no problem restarting the 504 either, just had to meet with the counselor to set about what he might need. remission is...

Blood in urine from 6mp/pneumonia and being immune compromised

Wow, what a side effect of the antibiotic! Hope that explains it. Yes, the SED rate can go up with the ear infection (with any infection).

    Thoughts on Endocrinologist?

I think it never hurts to follow up with an endocrinologist. We have gone to one a couple times for my son and need to get back in next month, actually. They mostly look at the long picture of growth, we took a hand x-ray to see the growth plates to see that my son was 2 years' delayed in growth...

Hair loss and kidney stones on Mercaptopurine

My son has been on 6mp twice, for about a year each time. The first time, he had some hair loss, not terribly noticable, but was a lot thinner. It wasn't controlling his disease either. I didn't notice any hair loss the 2nd time, in combo with Humira. No trouble with kidney stones either time.

    Perianal Complications?

My son's first abscess was drained, never healed, had surgery to lay open the fistula and that led to his Crohns dx. We had overlooked his slow growth, fatigue, and anemia. The 2nd abscess was treated with IV abx. Both times they were painful red lumps under the skin. He started with skin tags...

Humira for my daughter what are your thoughts

Want to add that the top-down approach (using biologics, before trying immunsuppressants or steroids) is now considered the right plan, especially for children nearing puberty

Humira for my daughter what are your thoughts

Humira has been successful for my son. The epipen loading doses were a shock at first, we now use the syringe for slower dosing, let it warm up 20 min. while he ices up.

    Any Suggestions?

Welcome and sorry to hear about your soon. It could be Remicade is failing, or it could be him going through puberty is exacerbating things. Hopefully his doctor will help him out quickly. Does he have a 504 plan? He may find some support at the CCFA teen site: http://www.ucandcrohns.org/

Humira side effects 3 days after

Hi, my son has been on Humira for a year and a half. I suspect it was just a one-off thing, Humira is not an instant or constant fix. He often has random side effects that come and go - headache, joint aches, fatigue, site rashes or blistering. I hope it gives him some lasting relief. Welcome to...

    Desperately need support

Sorry for being late to the party and to hear about your daughter's struggles. Welcome to the forum! I understand how you feel about tube feedings, but I hear they can be very beneficial. I hope methotrexate is her ticket to wellness, it can be. I noticed you are not far from me! Feel free to...

    IV meds at home?

My son's removal was easy, the home-care nurse did it at home, he just looked the other way.
