    Insurance and the Election

So sorry Dana. It is true, if you are on Medicare these savings plans you cannot be a part of. I think it is stupid, but it was part of the agreement the politicians made with the pharmaceutical industry to get their support for Obamacare. It is one of the things that needs to be fixed, in my...

    Insurance and the Election

Our insurance is a High Deductible Health Plan also. The deductible is $2,000 / person $4,000 / family. Our plan's fiscal year starts July 1st, and we usually have the deductible met by October. I had an option of staying on the traditional plan, but believe it or not moving to the high...

    Insurance and the Election

I work for the State of Utah, which in itself is a large employer. My insurance premiums are paid entirely by the State of Utah, which is a nice deal, but we do accept get lower pay because of that. My wife is also covered by my health plan and, because she is disabled, Medicare covers her...

    Insurance and the Election

My health insurance here in the U.S. is actually quite good. The insurance pays all but a small co-pay (after my deductible) and like CAT said, Humira ends up costing me $5.00/month, with the co-pay assistance program. All the expensive meds like Humira have their own co-pay assistance programs...

    Appendectomy

I no longer have my appendix because of my Crohn's surgery. The appendix is attached to the upper end of the colon, close to the terminal ileum. It was my terminal ileum plus 3 ft of my small intestine and the first 6 inches of my colon that were removed. Attached to that portion of the colon...

    Starting humira

Humira has been effective for me for 5 years. Now my levels have dropped and we are increasing to weekly injections. Not everybody has the same experience on these medications.

    Humira no longer working

I had the test for my Humira levels. Results - Humira was at 2.1. My GI informed me the level should be 5.0 for a therapeutic level. I also was tested for antibodies and found none. After over 5 years on Humira I am being changed to weekly injections.

Visited my G.I. today. Got the results of the Prometheus test and my Humira level is 2.1. To be therapeutic it should be 5.0. Good thing is I have not built up the anti-bodies to the Humira. We are switching to weekly injections. Hopefully we don't get push back from the insurance. Also, the...

Diagnosed with Crohn's a Couple Days Ago

Alan, I went for years with symptoms but was undiagnosed or misdiagnosed with Irritable Bowel Syndrome. I was diagnosed with Crohn's in 2010. Because I was misdiagnosed with IBS I was on the wrong meds and needed surgery. I have since been on other meds which failed, and then was put on Humira...

    Importance of knowing your genetics?

I would not go behind his back either. It's too bad he really does not want anything to do with his father. Anyway, I thought you might want to look at this site. www.ghr.nlm.nih.gov/condition/crohn-disease#sourcesforpage

    Importance of knowing your genetics?

There are definite genetic factors in Crohn's disease. I don't think the disease is entirely genetic, but there is a component that is. A full genetic run up would be quite expensive. If your fiance does not want to meet his biological father there may be another approach that works. I would...

    Genetics & Crohns

I am a family history buff and in my genealogy work I have found that my Dad's family had a history of stomach problems. In fact my Aunt (who has passed or I would ask her about this) wrote in her personal history that she had abdominal surgery because her intestines had become "tangled" because...

Newly diagnosed - unsure of options.

pnwgirl, Welcome to the Forum. :welcome: I agree with Justanothercp. Crohns is a very serious disease. I also had a very severe case at diagnosis and ended up having 3 feet of small intestine and 6 inches of my colon surgically removed. I have been on Humira for 5 years 4 months. The meds...

The FDA approval was for all indications that Humira is approved. Including Crohn's and Ulcerative Colitis. According to the article AbbVie is suing the manufacturer for patent infringement, trying to get the courts to block this biosimilar from coming onto the market. Humira accounts for...

Just wondered if anyone has heard or thought about switching to Amjevita? It is a biosimilar to Humira. Was approved by the FDA on September 23rd, 2016. http://www.wsj.com/articles/fda-approves-amgens-biosimilar-version-of-humira-1474669560

I will qualify for the Prometheus Links program. So I am happy about that. My GI's nurse is checking to see where I can get the blood draw taken. Just waiting for the word.

I went to my G.I. yesterday to followup on my latest flare. Their is some pain but it is not too bad right now. I am actually rather use to it. But my G.I. wants to know why it isn't going away on the Budesonide. So he ordered the Prometheus blood test to check levels of Humira. Now we are...
