How often should I get bloodwork done?

As VeganOstomy said, it depends on your medication. Certain meds affect liver function, so testing primarily focuses on that, and is usually done about once a month. It's good to keep an eye on vitamin levels as well, but if you're feeling well it becomes less of a concern. I don't get my...

    Negative Colonoscopy/Endoscopy with Positive Biopsy?

Welcome to the forum! Sorry to hear what you've been going through. :( To answer your question… you did not have a negative colonoscopy if there was inflammation. There's obviously something going on, and it sounds like Crohn's or UC. Your biopsies should be more telling, as well. Hopefully...

    Inflammation Patches

That sounds logical. The biopsies would likely point more towards Crohn's, although it would not need to be active in the ileum by any means. What does your doctor say on the matter?

    Contraception and Crohn's?

If you're not sensitive to condoms, you're not likely to have issues with any certain brand. If you are sensitive to them, your sensitivities may lay elsewhere - it's all trial and error. A combination approach sounds wise in your situation. Have you spoken to your GP? They may be able to...

    Brain fog ?

Thanks for the tag, afidz! I do have a lot of issues with brain fog. I forget every little thing, I misplace things, lose my train of thought… I've been out to dinner with coworkers and completely forgotten if I even worked the previous day, while they're able to even tell me what hours I...

Maltese are under seven pounds. :p Mastiff, maybe? They're pretty massive, so don't let that bother you!

How many M.D.s have you seen?

I've only seen three GI's. My first one moved, the second one I greatly disliked, so I switched to the third one who has been good so far. I also see a rheumatologist and gynecologist, as we're in the process of figuring out what problems are caused by or related to Crohn's and what are...

    Contraception and Crohn's?

Hi, Inwe! There isn't any certain type of birth control likely to cause a flare - it would come down to the hormones, so taking one would be much like taking any other. There are, however, a few things to keep in mind. Yes, Crohn's can cause absorption issues if you take the pill (which you...

    How do you define remission?

Only your GI can definitively determine whether or not you're in remission. If scopes and biopsies show no sign of active disease, then yes. You can have inflammation without having symptoms. However, a lack of symptoms is definitely a good sign. If you aren't technically in remission yet...

How many ppl out there have gone without medication? Mild vs Severe? Relationships?

The granules are inside of the capsules if you open them up. There's just too many of them for that to work for me, especially considering how many pills you have to take at once. Trying to take it just made me miserable four times a day, so it wasn't worth it in any way.

How many ppl out there have gone without medication? Mild vs Severe? Relationships?

As afidz said, being off medication entirely can be dangerous as you don't know when you actually have active disease - it can be completely asymptomatic. And as Orchid said, mild can progress to severe without any warning - there is no mild or severe case. That being said, I am not currently...

    Need Experienced Advice

We have a Remicade section in our Treatment forum. You can find it here. You can read about others' experiences, and please feel free to post your questions and concerns regarding Remicade there as well. I wouldn't worry. While there are many potential side effects as NGNG mentioned, this is...

    Need Experienced Advice

Inflammation would cause a fistula. They can link the intestines and bladder, and would cause blood in your urine (possibly feces and gas as well). The longer you wait, the more time you're giving your body to get worse. Even if all they do is give you IV fluids and pain medication, you're...

    Need Experienced Advice

Yup, I'd go to the ER at this point. I'd be concerned about a fistula if you're having blood in your urine with no other obvious cause. At the least, the ER can give you fluids and try to keep you nourished. They may hospitalize you, as well. What is your doctor's plan at this point? If...

    Need Experienced Advice

Welcome to the forum! Do you mind if I ask where you're located in West Virginia? As NGNG said, if your stricture is being caused by scar tissue, medications won't help. You'll need surgery, so personally I'd try to prepare for that. I wouldn't hesitate to go to the ER in your situation...

    Were You Informed After Diagnosis

I feel informed, yes. However, the internet is definitely one big scavenger hunt with ignorant people spouting nonsense all over the place. I consider myself lucky to have found the forum and obtained information in a place where the staff works to maintain the quality of information given...

    Mini-vents

I've actually been having a few salads lately and so far I'm still standing! There's a Wendy's right across from work and one of my coworkers has started dieting and getting their salads. They looked so good I couldn't resist. :( I do get a half size though. A week or so ago they...

Sufferers of Multiple Illnesses & IBD Support Group

:ghug: :ghug: :ghug: My mother was/is the same way - not just stuff, but trash. One of the biggest problems was dishes. She piled everything in the sink, and was apparently opposed to even rinsing a dish off. There was an entire summer that I ate nothing but pop-tarts because there were no...

Sufferers of Multiple Illnesses & IBD Support Group

My abuse was entirely psychological - my abuser was never in a state to be capable of physical abuse, or I have no doubt she would have tried that as well. My mother was never a responsible parent. However, we lived next door to my grandparents when I was young, so it wasn't much of an issue -...
