16 year old girl with Crohn's - The long journey to a diagnosis

I'm almost 40 but have considered having a Mirena placed to lessen my symptoms around the time of my period. I had one a while back but had it taken out, thinking it was causing migraines (needed glasses). I've also considered uterine ablation but that's a permanent thing, not for teens!

    Long Time in Coming!

I've seen a few posts of people in 50s and 60s with a new diagnosis. So glad you're on the upswing!

I'd just ask outright if he's approaching your treatment from the top down. I was pretty close to needing a resection so my dr reminds me of that when I want to decrease meds. The hip and hives are definitely worth investigating!

A year after my Crohn's dx, now my daughter

Is having issues. Her blood panel came back good but the Celiac screen hasn't come back. Is it safe to assume that Celiac isn't likely with normal inflammatory markers? I'm taking her back to the dr today. I'm not sure what to hope for in a next step? She having intermittent stomach pain...

    Essential Oils

Are you using these oils under the care of an aromatherapist or other practitioner? My suggestion is to definitely not stop the Imuran.

Regarding the exercise part of this thread, has anyone had success with just lifting weights, no cardio?

    The importance of regular exercise?

Hahaha, glad to hear it Lenny. I take pride in some of my more outrageous getups on my home elliptical. "Can't wear THIS to a gym, hahahaha!!"

    My experience with Shakeology

I'd be interested in the difference between the adrenal response to those vs coffee.

    The importance of regular exercise?

I think the issue at gyms is the particular infections found there in addition to common viruses like MRSA. This can be avoided by not only being vigilant in the gym area but the locker room too! Showering at home & always washing everything after a workout would help. And having gym-only shoes.

    The importance of regular exercise?

I'm pretty well manged on Humira. I can eat and drink almost anything I want. But I can NOT do high intensity exercise. Walking and yoga, yes. Running, swimming and even intense low impact cardio, no. Gives me that pre-flu feeling and stomach pain.

    Avoiding infection with immunosuppression

Hand washing is key. Encouraging those with whom you have a lot of contact to wash their hands. Encouraging students and fellow to teachers to stay home when they're sick. Why do you think the usual immune boosters won't help? How are your vitamin levels?

    Newbie to Crohns

I have no idea why GI's prescribe Pentasa to someone in a flare. If you don't walk away from the next appt with at least a short course of pred, make a second opinion appt asap. If there are fistulas, you get the honor of calling it "fistulizing Crohn's" which usually has to be aggressively...

I think perfect health diet covered the science well enough but worked it to allow potatoes and rice.
