    Antibiotics for sinus infection?

Have you asked your GI for an opinion?

    Does it get better?

Hang in there, FranG... it does get better. Like the others have said, once you're able to find the right medications for your son, things can improve dramatically. It took two years of trial and error (mostly waiting for meds to work or fail), but now my son is on Remicade and only thinks about...

    Apriso side effects in teens

Clash described the 5ASA very well. My son was initially put on Pentasa, and I won't say it didn't help, but as she described, it only helped the top layer. I think I'd ask your GI how long he/she wants to give the 5ASA before upping to the next level of medication - immunosuppressants. It...

Just realized it has been 7.5 years since diagnosis!

Hugs to you. Just take it all one day at a time...

    Update

Look in to a creme called Epiduo Forte for the acne. It did wonders for my son and is safe for people with IBD. Good luck with the scans.

    Make a wish

My son was granted a wish from Make-a-Wish. It came during the year in which he was hospitalized three times, had a small bowel resection, and had been suffering for almost two years.. They don't share the details of what qualified him (and I'm not sure I really want to know), but it was a great...

I'm back again with my concerns.

Ugh. So sorry, hon. Big hugs to you and your little guy! Well, I guess this answers the prednisone question. Maybe it's a blessing in disguise? Stay positive if you can.

I'm back again with my concerns.

    1. It's possible. Like you said, case in point with my son, though I still haven't had a chance to ask his GI why his antibody levels would have dropped like that. 2. First I would ask why you're only increasing dose and not frequency, just to get an understanding of what your GI is thinking...

Has SCD diet helped anyone with IBD?

Actually, we never followed up with scopes and biopsies until last month, which was two plus years later. His GI is very conservative and didn't feel the need until now for routine scopes, which were squeaky clean. I know some GI's do them more frequently, but his doesn't and I'm ok with that...

    Methotrexate??

My son is on a tiny oral dose (antibody prevention to Remi) and has had no side effects.

Has SCD diet helped anyone with IBD?

As Maya said, my son is a Remicade success story, but it wasn't easy getting here. I was like you and afraid of the meds, so I fought them. Unfortunately, my fear kept him from getting better sooner. We avoided the meds to the point where he needed to have a section of his small bowel removed...

    Small intestine resection

My son had an epidural and I'm wishing we would have done the pain pump instead. The epidural worked great and controlled pain, but only in the stomach area. It did nothing for the referral pain or sore throat he had. The epidural also caused a lot of itching and we had to wait for the on call...

Just when we thought all was going well..

A couple thoughts... one, he's never had an MRE before, right? So you don't know if there have been strictures before, correct? Two, see if you can get the radiologist and GI together to look at the MRE. Ask them to meet. I wouldn't want to do surgery unless both agreed it was the best option...

    Abdominal pain that wakes you

It used to happen to DS when he had his stricture. His GI thought it was his before bed snack finally hitting the point of the stricture and getting blocked up, which was painful for him. Vomiting would ease or make the pain go away. Is he nauseous or has he vomited with it?

Lost a MTX pill... now what?

Not sure if the pharmacy goofed or we somehow lost one mtx pill, but we're short one. If I go to the pharmacy, will they give us a single pill? He takes 3 pills a week (each 2.5mg to equal 7mg total). The refill isn't coming for another week and a half, so it does leave him short for one week...

    How do I help?

Oh, positive mum, we are in the same boat right now. His therapist has said similar things about how well we all handle the medical burdens and he thinks DS is managing wonderfully. Well, it's not so wonderful at home. As a matter of fact, it really sucks. We're just riding out the storm right...

    College & Crohn's

Thanks, Maya! And I forgot to ask... though slim, there is a possibility of him going to school in Canada. If any Canadians have input, I'd appreciate that too!
