    Nausea first week of Azathioprine

No problem, the general consensus is to take aza in the evening with/after food, take it at lower doses and build up slowly and be rest assured nausea is initially common but does usually pass after your body adjusts.

    Nausea first week of Azathioprine

Ah right, it might be worth discussing with your GI about taking 50mg for a few weeks and then increasing to 100mg?

    Nausea first week of Azathioprine

Most likely the aza - it should pass but what dose are you on right now and when in the day are you taking it?

How often do you think about your Crohn's?

I also think about it continuously but I think that is mainly because I have mild symptoms frequently like fatigue (although endoscopically I am much improved)

    Completely in limbo

I'm really glad to hear this. The worst position you can be in is to have something wrong with you and not know what it is. Hopefully this will get to the bottom of it as it sounds like you have been experiencing a lot of horrible symptoms and that is no way to live.

    New medication- Azathioprine

I think what is important to think about is the word "significant" is used a lot when describing medical outcomes. So there is a "significant risk" of skin cancer... however the use of the word significant in this way doesn't mean extremely likely. It just means in research studies p<0.05. When...

    Completely in limbo

I think you need to start calling the consultants personal secretary daily if necessary and ask: 1. For a letter or appointment to explain the MRI results 2. If/when you will have a colonoscopy A colonoscopy is the best way of ruling whether or not Crohn's is responsible for all your problems...

    New medication- Azathioprine

Hello, I have been on it one year, no issues with it and my test results have all improved. When is your ileostomy being reversed because I would seriously be considering starting it afterwards due to the healing process. Due to you having a history of perforating, this drug or a biologic...

    Completely in limbo

You can have a normal MRI and still have Crohn's, an MRI doesn't necessarily rule out Crohn's but I would have thought if an MRI is indicating Crohn's they would want to do a colonoscopy anyway routinely to assess what is going on from the inside of your bowel.

I am not sure what else causes fistulas? Can you ask your consultant to write to you with the results/diagnosis?

IBD nurses have phoned me twice asking me to do a blood test

Thanks :-) You need to realise you are going to experience tremendous anxiety over this surgery, which is entirely unhelpful but understandable - it's scary and the unknown. I would recommend distracting yourself as best you can and try and recognise it's anxiety pure and simple. I had my...

IBD nurses have phoned me twice asking me to do a blood test

Yes they thought it was all due to appendicitis. So I said goodbye and went on my merry way!

    Dear lord help me....

Something I read recently: "It's important to remember that the NHS isn't a free service, offered by a benevolent government. We have paid for it with our taxes and National Health contributions - it's a publicly-funded, national, health insurance scheme. That's why it's such flagrant theft when...

IBD nurses have phoned me twice asking me to do a blood test

Hey, yeah for a good three years I felt like surgery was the best thing that ever happened to me, my quality of life was so fantastic. I felt like a healthy person and my abdomen/bowels/stomach felt so great it was like I could not believe I had ever had a problem there. I worked loads...

    Dear lord help me....

Yes exactly so I am really not sure what to suggest when the UK's system it to trial you on a biologic for a year and if it works, stop your funding so you can no longer have access to it. We get no say and cannot force the NHS to keep funding for it. If in remission we would lose our...

    Dear lord help me....

I think the issue is here in the UK what I think happens is you are put on a biologic and if you then go into remission after a year the biologic is pulled. I think it is dangerous to burn through biologics like this and have that inflammation cycle so up and down. I don't know what the...

    Just started Azathioprine

I've been on azathioprine for 1 year and my colonoscopy last week showed a massive improvement compared to last year. I'm guessing the side effects you are worried about are the cancer risk? This is really only a significant risk when being on the drug for more than 5 years. Furthermore, the...
