    Moving From Humira to REMICADE

Well, we're almost on the same schedule! I just had my first Remicade infusion last Friday after Humira failing me. I was hoping to catch up on some sleep as I had read that the infusion may make you sleepy but they also gave me 100mg of hydrocortisone and that kept me up all night, bummer! My...

    Eating Steak

I have never has issues with steak, bbq'd, rare or any other way. Happily so as it makes up quite a large part of my diet. I love salad but can't eat it and really only eat root veges, bread and meat. Don't have a lot of issues with fat either but I never eat MacD's or any other fast food as it...

    Prednisolone and Weight Gain

Hiya, I know what you mean with the weight gain on pred. The first time I took it I was so happy I could eat again that I gained 20 kg in a year! The last time I used it I was on 60mg a day for a few weeks and then stared a taper by 5mg 's a week. Like you I was very fearful of the weight gain...

    What this can be?

Sorry, I have no idea what it could be, hope someone else more knowledgeable comes along soon!

    Fingernail growth/shape and Crohns'.....

Haha, me too! My nails have always been very curved, like Lisa's pic but possibly slightly worse. My finger shape is fairly normal though, no real widening around the fingertips and when I do the nail against nail thing as described above I can see some light, so would I have clubbing or just...

    Pain and fiber

I wouldn't start with raisins, they kill me! Just start gently with Psyllium and build up from there only if you tolerate it.

    Salad eaters

I stick to soluble fibre only. I love salad but it hates me so I just don't. Even in remission I need to be careful with salad, fruit and veges. I can have some psyllium and I suppose other soluble fibre but nothing insoluble. Why does you GI think you need more fibre? Has he mentioned to...

    IBD and Male Pattern Baldness?

Yes, I have the same! Even though I'm female and my hair was thinning badly on the sides rather than the top my dermatologist diagnosed it as male(female?) pattern hairloss. I was not on medication at the time so I certainly think it was caused by the Crohn's itself. Probably, in part at least...

    Question re colonoscopy/endoscopy

I've not had any bad effects from the unaesthetic and have always gone back to work the day after the procedure. Granted as I'm getting older this is becoming more difficult but I had one this year and had no issues the next day at work. I also have a desk job and I find that gives me plenty of...

    Psyllium Husks

I'd start with a teaspoon mixed in half a glass of water first thing in the morning. I suffer from strictures too and am very wary of stool bulkers since metamucil landed me in hospital with a total blockage! I don't wait for the psyllium to thicken, just a quick stir and down the hatch. I then...

    Can I Have a Pet?

Of course you van have a pet! The happiness they give you will probably cancel out any risks ;) To be honest I've never even thought about that before but have always had cats and will continue to do so. I don't let them onto the bench etc and obviously washing your hands after cleaning the...

    Where did my Crohn's go?

I went from having pan-colitis with talk of surgery to remove the colon due to the severity of the disease to being medication and almost symptom free for many years. Scopes in those years showed no damage at all, so yes it's entirely possible. Unfortunately the symptoms slowly returned and it...

    Humira Club Support Group

Well, I'm about to unsubscribe from this group as Humira is failing me.:stinks: I was very hopeful in the beginning, the month of the loading doses was great but it went downhill from there. The last 6 months I've been on weekly but while my bloods aren't too bad strictures are forming again...

New antibody Etrolizumab promising in severe colitis

Having just failed Humira I have the option of participating in the phase III clinical trial, or switching to Remicade. I'm leaning to Remicade as there is 1/3 chance that I'll be getting a placebo in the trial and I really need to get on top of this inflammation as I'm starting to get...

How fast can food make it completely through GI tract? kinda gross

On bad days things like lettuce go through in 20 minutes, no change from before my resection. If I'm not using Imodium or codeine my lunch is usually gone around an hour to 90 minutes later, generally just in time for a 2pm meeting :) And when it's that fast I can generally recognize what I had...

Can I stop colonoscopy prep if

I've never managed to completely finish the prep and I've asked my dr afterwards if it was OK. He said as long as you're running clear it's fine. The goal is not to finish the drink, it's to run clear. If you've managed that you're fine.

What was your Crohn's misdiagnosed as?!

That's awful! And what could have happened to me had I not declined their offer of curing me by the complete removal of my colon! I was lucky that I was just short of having no choice, sickness wise, I guess you weren't! What a disaster, how are you coping? I now have no disease in my colon at...

    Cracked mouth corners are back?

I had cracked corners of my mouth when I was on MTX and it was definitely due to low folic acid. As soon as I increased the dose they went away. I asked my specialist and she said it's a vitamin deficiency and because of the mtx most likely folic acid.

    Humira Pen Injections

I much prefer the syringe. I hate the "click" of the pen and the lack of control like you. I also had a misfire once and that really didn't help! And like Ron I'm not very coordinated and find the pen hard to administer. I find the syringe much much easier, give it a try, you can always go back...

What would you like people to know?

OK, I'm sure there are loads of things to share but let's start with: If a person looks healthy, it doesn't mean they are People with IBD can be overweight There is no diet that will suit everyone I'll probably think of quite a few more but I'm keen to see what other people say as well.
