Does IBD mostly get worse as time progresses?

Prepare for the worst and hope for best! I think, ultimately, we need to be optimistic that attained remission will last indefinitely while making sure we do not skip on doctor appointments or routine tests (as annoying as they are) so that if things do take a turn to the worse we are ready to...

MAP Vaccine Ready for Human Trials - Could be Used for Crohn's

I would still very much like to know what's going on with the vaccine. Phase I trials were supposed to start earlier this year and were delayed due to a manufacturing pickup. I´d love to know what's the current news on this as the website hasn't been updated in a while...

Need a few words of encouragement, upcoming surgery.

I have a stricture in my mid-ileum that I might need surgery for in the future. My doctor told me that laparoscopic resection is a super easy surgery with very little down time. He told me in fact that one of his Crohns patients had a resection and was Crohns free for 20 years after that without...

Does IBD mostly get worse as time progresses?

Research suggests that those with Crohns and disease isolated in the colon have a better prognosis. Being diagnosed after 40 also seems to be suggestive of a milder disease. There are quite a few people on this forum who have been in remission for years and years and years on maintenance meds...

MAP Vaccine Ready for Human Trials - Could be Used for Crohn's

Thanks for the update Scared1. Did they say anything about the current trial? Around 200 people completed half the trial, correct? Was anything mentioned about their progress?

MAP Vaccine Ready for Human Trials - Could be Used for Crohn's

Any update on the phase I trials for the vaccine, JMC? As for the redhill news, I'm not sure if it's good or bad news that interim results will now only be released in Q2 2017...

RHB 104 - Clinical Trial Documentary

I wonder when we´ll have the preliminary report promised for Q4 2016? Do the changes to the trial mean we won´t get the partial results this year? If I understood the press release correctly, we´ll only get safety data in 2016? And efficacy will be analyzed only in 2017?... :/

    Has it stopped working?

I'm a newbie so I cannot claim to know the answers to your questions, but my first instinct would be to ask your doctor if it isn´t possible to increase your AZA dose. I have heard of other people on this forum that have started with a lower dose and over time had to increase the dose. Again...

Imotsie, I hope you don´t mind me asking, but where is your disease located?

    New treatment target: Paneth Cells

Read this today and thought it was interesting: "Research from the Sanford Burnham Prebys Medical Discovery Institute (SBP) identifies a promising new target for future drugs to treat inflammatory bowel disease (IBD). The study, published in Cell Reports, also indicates that another protein...

2 years symptom free then BAM its back

Were you administered an IV contrast when you had your last MREs? When I have a MRE Enterography they make me drink an oral contrast material and I receive an IV administered contrast material as well. The IV administered contrast is usually an element like gadolinium and is later processed and...

RHB 104 - Clinical Trial Documentary

Aren´t these trials also meant to find out what the most common side effects of a drug are? If they put too many side-effect causing chemicals in the placebo, wouldn´t it be harder to do that final placebo vs active arm side-effect comparison?

    Remicade vs other treatments

I suppose Crohns is so difficult because everyone is different* . There are people on this forum that have been years on AZA or 6mp without issues or secret damage happening. I think ultimately, in my personal opinion, what anyone with Crohns should do is: 1. Find a GI that you like and trust...

    Remicade vs other treatments

*Forgot to mention: the reason why my doctor is against starting Remicade or another anti-TNF right away in a case like mine (which is considered mild) is that many people (although not everyone) develop antibodies to Remicade over time. It can be as fast a a few months to a few years. And once...

    Remicade vs other treatments

Hi there. I think whether to start with Remicade or not depends on how serious your condition is now and your expected prognosis. Biologics are the most potent drugs available as of now. I'm newly diagnosed too and my doctor, for instance, said he wants to start me on AZA as monotherapy and...

    Undiagnosed Club Support Group

Johno87, did you have that fecal calprotectin test done in the end? That's probably a cheaper test than either an MRI or the colonoscopy, less invasive, and will tell you if you have inflammation or not.

    Hi

What do you mean with "you have a fistula put in"? Both UC and Crohns are IBDs and you usually go through the same tests in order to diagnose either disease. Im sure the tests you have to go through now are similar to the ones you had done before to diagnose you with UC in the first place...

    Question?

Did you have a fecal calprotectin test done? I ask because its super easy and has a good negative predictive power for IBD. Other than that, it seems that you should definitely push for a CT or MRI enterography. I would do that before the colonoscopy because *if* you have Crohns, you might have...

    Undiagnosed - need some advice

Nbca, when you were diagnosed did you not have a colonoscopy/endoscopy? Its pretty standard practice. Don´t worry about the scopes!
