Prednisone AND budesonide? Is it normal to be on both?

Every time I take prilosec I feel it clearly make my CD burning pain worsen, so I try to avoid PPI meds when I'm flaring. I've wondered why. I figure when the stomach acid is diminished, bad bacteria may be permitted into my small bowel. Don't know if my logic is correct or if this applies to...

    Giving yourself a needle

Has anyone ever had to go back to the pharmacy and ask for a replacement due to accidentally spraying out all of the medicine? I wonder how the pharmacy of the manufacturer would react to that. I can totally see myself botching a load of meds like that. How could anyone pay out of pocket for...

CD suddenly migrated to left lower quadrant

I've had too many radiation tests; I'm not going to do any more of them. I doubt a sbs would show inflammation if the MRI didn't. I'm reluctant to try Humira if I really need a surgery. I'm told that Humira is not good for surgery because you don't heal up as well. I don't know what the...

CD suddenly migrated to left lower quadrant

Update - had my scope today. My GI said he was able to use his enteroscope to get 3 to 4 feet above my anastamosis and saw no evidence of inflamaation. My MRI Enterography from just 2 weeks ago showed no inflammation. And yet I have gurgling, all-day squeezing/cramping/pain on my left as...

Epidemiological map of CD, and question for Canadians

Here is a map of the CD frequency globally. I wanted to look into this because I'm always intrigued by how geographies can be so different in terms of incidence/prevalence, and I figure there must be some good clues there if anyone wanted to seriously research it. So if you want to check out...

CD suddenly migrated to left lower quadrant

Heidi, Do you mean the place in Tacoma? I see that Klaus Mergener is listed on the roster there. He came to work in Seattle for about a year, and then left. I was surprised. He seemed pretty good. I've been dealing with a couple of gi's. One is more of a researcher and he advocates the...

CD suddenly migrated to left lower quadrant

Thanks Crabby, I've used Entocort in the past. It did not put me into remission, and it helped somewhat with the pain. 9mg of Entocort seems to quell the pain for 12-18 hours. I'm kind of trying to figure out how I might transition from pred to Entocort/6mp. The challenge I have is that...

CD suddenly migrated to left lower quadrant

For the past 30+ years my CD has always been in my LRQ in my terminal ileum. I've been resected there twice. Now for about a month I've had intense pain in my lower left quadrant, exactly opposite from where I normally have my pain. I've consulted with a couple gi's locally, and recently had...

    Giving yourself a needle

Why would the syringe be better than the pen? What happens if the medicine goes shooting across the room? Can you somehow obtain more medicine to replace the portion that shot across the room? Is it an option to just go visit the nurse each time and have them give the injection for someone...

Humira Loading Dose: 160/80 vs 80/40?

Hello, I'm wondering what loading dose is being prescribed to patients these days. I've read studies that seem to indicate that using a higher loading dose of 160/80 has better clinical results than 80/40. What loading dose has everyone used, and does anyone have an opinion as to effectiveness...

US citizens buying drugs in Canada

David, did you ever try the rifaximin, and if so did it help? I'm assuming for CD?

    Pannexins and Inflammatory Bowel Disease

I read another abbreviated version of this article somewhere, maybe an abstract on pubmed or whatever. The one I read didn't make quite as much sense as this article. I find it interesting & kind of surprising that this article states, "...while scientists have long known that inflammatory...

Granulocyte and monocyte adsorptive apheresis induced remission in a CD patient

I found a decent little writeup in a book that is featured in a Google book preview. The book is titled: Clinical Dilemmas in Inflammatory Bowel Disease, and the writeup is on pages 105-107. Maybe this link might work...

Granulocyte and monocyte adsorptive apheresis induced remission in a CD patient

I've been reading a little bit about granulocyte and monocyte adsorptive apheresis, which as I understand, is a form of treatment for IBD, which is used in Japan (if I recall correctly). Anyhow, in pubmed, here's a description of the treatment. I note that this description specifically cites...

    Vitamin D, NOD2 Gene and Crohn's Disease

Thanks Dan, that makes me a bit more intrigued yet. Can you give me some idea of how long & how frequently you use the tanning beds & how long it took to see your vitamin D levels improve?

Shakes and anxiety from prednisone taper?

The lower I go, the smaller the increments I must taper by. I start to have anxiety attacks if I'm an hour late on my dose when tapering. When I get in the 10-15mg range, I need to taper by about 1.5mg per 10 days. I bought a pill cutter at the pharmacy to help with this.

    Vitamin D, NOD2 Gene and Crohn's Disease

Thanks David, but as I mentioned, I've tried the gelcap (sorry, that's what I meant by D capsule) and I have the same reaction - it makes me ill and I gotta lie down, it's terribly unpleasant for a few hours. I remember trying the smallest dose, which was undoubtedly 400mg. So the gelcaps are...

    Vitamin D, NOD2 Gene and Crohn's Disease

Whenever I drink any coffee-type beverage or many other items, I get burning in my voicebox. My GI & ENT doc's have told me for years that I have LPR (laryngopharyngeal reflux disease), which is not heartburn, but burning in the airway attributable to minute acid/pepsin gases escaping from the...

    CD8+ T-Cell Deficiency, Epstein-Barr Virus Infection, Vitamin D Deficiency....

Here's the link to the free full report. http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC3270541/?tool=pubmed And here's the pubmed abstract. I found this very interesting. I'm not too good with the technical discussion of immunology, but if I understand correctly, the gist of this article is...

    Modulen help?

Thanks Twiggy, I can't really drink black coffee because it somehow hurts my larynx really bad (I have what's known as LPR...laryngopharyngeal reflux disease...which is basically a form of GERD except that I don't get heartburn, I just get burning on my larynx). Also, black coffee feels like a...
