    Hydrothermally Proscessed Cereals AF-IBD

Interesting. Says it's in inactive form in healthy humans and is activated by pathogens. Can obtain active form via specially processed cereals or from direct consumption of salovum. Here's another http://www.biomedicine.gu.se/digitalAssets/1307/1307901_stefan-lange---webb.pdf Now...

    I couldn't tolerate LDN

Just thought I'd add my personal experience. Before I describe my experience with LDN, some relevant background... A couple years ago when my child was having night terrors every night for a month, I became severely sleep-deprived and developed a problem with my wrists - severe fatigue-like...

ACE2 links amino acid malnutrition to microbial ecology and intestinal inflammation

kiny, is this implying that we should be watching to ensure we have adequate tryptophan intake? That's in turkeys right?

Serological markers predict inflammatory bowel disease years before the diagnosis.

Interesting, no? From my read of this, it's citing E. Coli antibodies as predictive. So what might be deduced from such knowledge with respect to etiology of IBD? Or ways to head off IBD for those with antibodies? Gut. 2012 Jul 26. [Epub ahead of print] Serological markers predict...

The (mis)labelling of Crohn's as an autoimmune disease

Moe, what sort of supplements help? Also, you say you are on prednisone and "anti-inflammatories". What sort of anti-inflammatories besides prednisone? What does Dr. Borody say about the use of biologics or immunomodulators? Will he try you on those at some point or is he against them? What...

The (mis)labelling of Crohn's as an autoimmune disease

Here is an excerpt from this link, which indicates the 3 antibiotics in RHB-104 http://www.digestionblog.com/redhill-biopharmas-rhb-104-map-treatment-crohns-disease/ RHB-104 is a triple antibiotic formula that is used to treat MAP bacterium. MAP is a shorter way of saying “Mycobacterium avium...

The (mis)labelling of Crohn's as an autoimmune disease

kiny - I've read or watched on youtube about how immune modulating/tnf drugs can induce apoptosis and I guess kill some of the map in the process. However, I've not read or watched on youtube any comment that long-term use of these drugs can benefit the map bug over time. This in contrast to...

The (mis)labelling of Crohn's as an autoimmune disease

Tenacity, I'm not real savvy on the immune system or the terminology, but my rudimentary understanding is that because our innate immune system (first line of defense) is defective, the invaders are able to take up residence within our cells (within our macrophages actually, which are the cells...

The (mis)labelling of Crohn's as an autoimmune disease

I just came across Behr's youtube presentation. Good stuff, good food for thought, it's nice to find a video like this where a researcher sort of lays out some thoughts methodically. Behr tends to believe that Crohn's is a disease of "immunodeficiency", not a disease of "autoimmune". He makes...

    Faecal transplants for IBD

For your edification & viewing enjoyment - a video about faelcal transplant, in these cases, for C. Diff. Dr. Borody in Australia. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tDcia_uqf3k&feature=related "...poo is a zoo..." "...we are 10% human and 90% poo..."

    Faecal transplants for IBD

Here's one anecdotal report on the web of someone having at least a degree of short-term success apparently, along with a mention of a doctor in Portland, OR, who might be able to assist with this sort of thing. http://www.ibdsupport.org/forums/topic/144250-fecal-transplant/ Fecal Transplant...

    Faecal transplants for IBD

I know there have been reports of faecal transplant for C. Diff. This abstract mentions faecal transplant for IBD. If anyone has access to the full text with references to the cases in question it would be interesting to read about the cases and possibly even see which doc's/centers may have...

    Mayo Clinic in Rochester

I also stayed at the Kahler Grand about 6 years ago when I went to the Mayo. I would definitely stay there again due to the proximity to Mayo. I was pleased with my GI there, who spent an hour or more talking with me. Sounds like I had a different GI than Brian had.

New Clinical Trial Seeks to Cure Advanced Crohn’s Disease by Replacing a Diseased Imm

I don't think my doc's comments were out of line in any way whatsoever. I think his statement that this treatment is only for the most desperate of patients meshes with Fred Hutchinson's requirement that the patient must have failed all other conventional treatment options to be considered for...

New Clinical Trial Seeks to Cure Advanced Crohn’s Disease by Replacing a Diseased Imm

According to my doc, this is for the most desperate of patients. I'm told that this treatment can kill you. Graft vs. Host disease was one example given for how it can kill you. I didn't inquire too much about it, he just mentioned it with the list of treatment options.

    Vitamin D and Crohn's Disease

David, do you think this product by itself would be adequate, or do you think additional magnesium would be suggested? I note that this product only includes 50% rda for magnesium. I've read about magnesium supplements, stating that malate & glycinate are good forms, but when I check the sites...

    Clinical Trials?

My doc told me about this one. I tried to get into it but did not qualify, due to the company having very strict criteria for qualification on account of the previous trial was botched, and so now they've got probably one shot left to prove efficacy. Last time I saw my doc he indicated it...

Month of birth, vitamin D and risk of immune-mediated disease: a case control study

A new study finding correlations to autoimmune disease and month of birth, with analysis & correlation of timing of UVB rays & vitamin D status. Interesting. And here's the link to free full text PDF with graphs: http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC3395583/pdf/1741-7015-10-69.pdf...

Etiology of inflammatory bowel disease: A unified hypothesis

Xiaofa, I was just noticing on my elemental diet drink that it says it is sweetened with acesulfame-potassium, and when I read about this on the internet, it mentions that it is about as sweet as saccharin or sucralose. I don't know how many artificial sweeteners are in use today, but would...
