Anti-MAP treatment works! Questions about Rife machine and fecal transplant

Actually Kev I think the on/off method is used to reduce the rates of resistance compared to continuous treatment with antibiotics. I was treated for SIBO using an on/off antibiotic regime and I was told that they do it this way as continuous treatment is more likely to lead to resistance. I may...

Help please impossible. Azathioprine and Mineral Deficiencies

I found some info on Derby Hospitals website (bottom of page 3) saying that "Magnesium glycerophosphate tablets are unlicensed but are available in pharmacy on a named patient basis". So you must be able to get them. Perhaps ask at your local pharmacy for advice on how to get some if your GP...

Can't handle Peptamen 1.5 - is there anything else that's easier to take?

Were you drinking the liquid through a straw LIB? When I was on a liquid diet I found that drinking through a straw would give me trapped gas and it was one of the most painful things I have ever experienced, and that's saying quite a lot as I get pretty awful pain with my Crohns sometimes. I...

    Flaring after colonoscopy?

I've had problems after a scope but for me I know it was the prep that caused the problems because I had to drink the same prep mixture (KleanPrep) for an MRI, and I ended up flaring after that too. My doctor didn't believe me when I told her that the prep had caused me to flare badly.

Advice from (not so) sunny UK

I have the same thing, my main symptom is pain and occasionally my BM's will be loose but rarely frequent. I don't think it's all that uncommon so please don't feel like a fraud. The evidence of inflammation is there on your scan so hopefully the doctors will believe you. Like the others said...

    Alternatives to Klean Prep

Could you call the endoscopy unit, rather than the GI unit? They might be able to help...worth a try.

Did Pentasa work for you/your child?

I'd follow Clash's suggesting and monitor closely with fecal calprotectin tests. Try not to worry about one-off symptoms as there are lots of things that could cause stomach pain and D - just be vigilant and get your son seen if it continues more than a week or two or if it gets worse...

    Nickel and Crohn's disease

It looks like those of us in the UK have another source of nickel to contend with, though I'm not sure if it'll really be a big problem as I expect exposure time will be small unless you handle money a lot (e.g. cashiers, bankers etc). A short article about it can be found here. I'm not sure...

Did Pentasa work for you/your child?

I was on Pentasa for several years and did quite well on it. My Crohn's was in my colon at the time, but it has since moved to my TI and Pentasa wasn't effective for me then and I had to switch to Imuran.

If your on imuran where is your crohns located?

Imuran on its own may be enough, but it's going to vary from person to person. Imuran's effects aren't specific to any particular part of the bowel, whereas Pentasa is, so although your daughters doctor is right that the Pentasa will be helping in the colon the Imuran should be doing that too...

    Alternatives to Klean Prep

Citramag doesn't taste too bad and it's a really small quantity to drink (about 400ml I think). It gave me dreadful cramps though which I never had with Klean Prep. Everyone reacts differently though.

    GP call.

I too have a fantastic GP who will call me if my blood work is off. It's nice to know that they're actually acknowledging the results and are caring enough to check up on you (or your son in your case). You hear so many stories about unhelpful and uncaring GP's so I think we're very lucky not to...

    Furry and colored tongue

I have a fury tongue too. It started about a year ago after a course of antibiotics and I thought it was thrush so saw my GP about it, but treating it with Fluconazole and Nystatin made no difference. I still have the fury tongue now and haven't been able to find anything that gets rid of it...

Diagnosed with Ileitis now having MRI of the small Bowel

This abstract might give you some more info, though some of it sounds a bit technical: http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/20532706

Diagnosed with Ileitis now having MRI of the small Bowel

Ileitis means inflammation of the ileum. Usually it's caused by Crohn's but I think there can be other less common causes too.

    Question About Stricture Size

For a short stricture they could also do a balloon dilation to open things up enough to delay or avoid surgery. But like others have said, if it's not giving you any problems then doctors probably wouldn't recommend doing anything about it.

    Nickel and Crohn's disease

With earrings they'll make my ears itch within a couple of hours of putting the earrings in. I also find necklaces make me itch too and I turn a bit red where they're in contact with my skin, and again that's after a few hours of wearing them. My ears are definitely worse though, they itch very...

    Crohn' disease and hypoglycemia

I've never heard of this before although I have heard of people with Crohn's having fast digestive transit times so it could be possible that the hypoglycemia and Crohn's are somehow linked. Malabsorption is a common issue with Crohn's but that tends to be due to inflammation, scarring or surgery.

Diagnosed with Ileitis now having MRI of the small Bowel

I'd already been diagnosed with Crohn's, so my MRI only confirmed that my disease was confined to my terminal ileum (ileitis).

Diagnosed with Ileitis now having MRI of the small Bowel

Hi Moose, MRI lets them see where the scope can't reach, as the scope doesn't go all the way through you. They can also show fistula tracks in more detail than can be gained from a scope. For me, I had a stricture in my terminal ileum which the scope couldn't pass so I had an MRI to give more...
