    Specific Carbohydrate Diet

Lately, my son has been having a hard time putting on weight, so we decided to add white rice to his diet, something that he loved before getting ill. He's eaten it twice and so far, no problems.

    Let's hear success stories!

Son has been in remission since May and he's feeling pretty good these days.:) Still following the SCD and taking Pentasa 3 xs a day. I think he's grown 3.5" inches since he was diagnosed. He is now 5'10.5". I won't be surprised if he reaches 6'. :)

    Bananas for Bananas

They are quite spotted with brown when I add them to smoothies (as directed by the SCD) and they taste better that way, anyway. I buy a bunch everytime I go to the store, so we have revolving bananas...green, yellow and spotted. In the past, I always ate bananas when they just turned yellow...

    Bananas for Bananas

I've never liked bananas, but I love them in smoothies for some reason. Even by themselves, frozen and blended into *ice cream*. My son drinks 2 or 3 bananas everyday, but rarely eats one.

    Favorite SCD recipes

Another winner from Alton Brown. "Winter Vegetable Soup". It's vegan and SCD if you use SCD soy sauce sub. (coconut aminos) Delicious and healthy! :)

    Affordable smoothie recipes

We had a 20 year old lg chest freezer that I recently gave away and since our family is smaller now, we bought a new, smaller one for only $150. I like it better because our stuff doesn't get lost in it, like it did in the old one. Yet, it does hold quite a bit of food.

    Favorite SCD recipes

Found 2 more SCD recipes that my son adores! :) Top Secret Recipes: Wendy's Chili. And Alton Brown's Lentil Soup.

    Affordable smoothie recipes

Have you tried banana smoothies? Because we don't like to eat bananas at all, but we love how creamy they make our smoothies. :)

    How were your kids born?

Oldest and youngest children were diagnosed with Crohn's, although oldest has been symptom and drug free since age 24 and she is almost 33. Oldest was a vaginal birth, youngest was c-section. Both were very healthy babies/ young children. Youngest got Crohn's at age 14 most likely, diagnosed...

    Affordable smoothie recipes

Organic bananas are .89 lb where I live, so all of my son's smoothies have 2 or 3. To that I add about a cup and a half of organic berries, cherries or mango (which I purchase frozen, in 3 lb bags at Costco for $8 to $10) and enough water to get the right consistency, about 12 - 16 oz. I think...

    I'm tiny.

I'm 5' 7" and reached my full height in the 8th grade, when most of the boys I liked were about 5' 4" or 5". I hated being "tall". I tried to stand slumped over, sat whenever possible, etc. I can't believe it, but I felt like a freak for a couple of years. And people made rude comments...

So frustrated with this disease...I just want to be reliable again.

I'm so sorry. That's very sad. I hope you start feeling better soon and don't have to quit your job! IMO being chronically ill is life's biggest rip-off.

    Gross poop question

Are you saying the Vegetarian Resource Group is incorrect? Because they state the opposite of your study. Maybe I should let them know...;)

    Gross poop question

It's actually quite easy to get enough iron as a vegan. Vitamin C greatly inhances absorption and vegans typically eat a lot of vitamin C. According the VRG, omnis are no less likely to be deficient. http://www.vrg.org/nutrition/iron.php

How much money do you need to have to be sick?

I grew up in near abject poverty, which left wounds that will never heal and when I hear about other's $ problems, I feel incredibly sad. Our country is wealthy and has no need to deprive it's citizens of basic needs: Food, shelter and healthcare. Did you know it costs an average city in the...

How much money do you need to have to be sick?

People need to rise up and demand free, quality healthcare, as a human right.

    Very uncomfortable :(

Have you ever asked your doctor if you could give yourself an enema under such circumstances? I've only gone 4 days without going and was miserable.

    Emotional kid. x

So often kids suffer in silence and put up with things adults would never dream of putting up with. His tears might be a sign that he's been trying to deal with too much by himself.
