Ped or Adult GI at Motts/U of Mich

Still no decision. Apparently we're waiting until May 1st. *said w thick sarcasm* For the younger parents, that's the last possible decision day for most US colleges. GI today did say that he can help us find another GI who will co-sign infusions and orders and be available for flares...

Should he stay or should he go??

Met with our GI and discussed this a little today. We're going to stick with the ped GI, but our GI said he'd help us find a GI at college to sign off on infusions and labs. New GI will consult with ped GI on everything and also be available for emergencies. Our ped GI today said sometimes this...

Ped or Adult GI at Motts/U of Mich

Thanks, everyone. I hadn't really thought about the 18 thing and how a ped clinic might not take him. Going the adult route seems to make more sense, especially if he'll be there 4+ years. I will look into Dr. Higgins, crohnsinct - thanks! I see there is also a Dr. Rice there who has interests...

Ped or Adult GI at Motts/U of Mich

Well, here we are. DS just got accepted to his #1, U of Mich, and while he's taking a week to think about it, I think it's a go. I've been looking at the gastro dept web pages for Motts and U of M and could really use some input. First, do we stick with a ped GI? Or transition to an adult GI...

    Second opinion?

Another Remicade fan! We did go the route of 5ASA to immunomodulators to biologics and I wish we'd just started with Remicade, but our insurance required a bottom up approach. About an hour into his first infusion, he asked for food. That was a jaw dropping moment for us! Shortly after he was...

    Wisdom Teeth Infected?

They used the disolvable ones. I was expecting him to stay home the rest of the week, but he insisted on going. Today he looked visibly swollen (day 3, expected), but again, he popped some Tylenol and took off even tho pain was a four. English paper due and calc test part two today. 🙁. In his...

    Wisdom Teeth Infected?

Yes, biggest lesson learned is to take care of wisdom teeth before they become a problem so that you can do some planning. We got lucky with our timing and his Remi schedule. Also learned we have crappy insurance and are footing an unexpected bill this holiday season. DS did the Norco for one...

    Wisdom Teeth Infected?

Yes, he was sedated. :) He just tried to take Tylenol, but he's still numb and can't feel anything. The pill fell out of this mouth. Suggestions?? We have to wait for hubs to get home with the Norco in a couple hours, but will def try and stay on top of the pain.

    Wisdom Teeth Infected?

Started the day with a snowstorm. Nice. :-| The patient is home and groggily humming Christmas music through a mouth full of gauze. I can't understand a word he's saying, so I gave him a pen and a notebook. He's writing sloppy messages to me in Spanish; which he hasn't studied in four years...

    Wisdom Teeth Infected?

I talked to the GI nurse just now and they are still saying no abx and that the oral rinse should be fine. I asked about opportunisitc infections and she said they still believe triggering a flare is of greater concern. She also said to keep the Remi as planned, but to call her Monday with an...

    Wisdom Teeth Infected?

Someone remind me... can he be on abx at his next infusion on the 22nd? Got an appt with an oral surgeon (had to call three!) for Thursday and he's on their cancellation list for sooner. She said they generally don't prescribe abx and do Vicodin for pain. Theoretically, Remi would be 15 days...

    10yo diagnosed with IBD/Celiac?

We run Celiac panels once a year or during times when we weren't sure if it was Crohn's or Celiac causing the issue. My son was vomiting daily for awhile and we kept chalking it up to gluten only to find out he had a stricture. It can be really tricky because you have to rule one or the other...

    10yo diagnosed with IBD/Celiac?

How are things going, Carolina*? Sorry for not responding sooner. I'm not getting the tags and haven't been checking in much lately. My son was dx'd with both Celiac and Crohn's nine years go. Please feel free to ask questions!

    Wisdom Teeth Infected?

The dentist said it would be all four (and he has four), which is what I think we’d all prefer. He also didn’t specifically say why, but I sensed there was some urgency to getting this done and that’s why he recommended a certain surgeon over another option. It was crazy busy at the dental...

    Wisdom Teeth Infected?

Thanks for the info! The dentist took an x-ray of the tooth today (prior x-ray was spring of 2016) and it is erupting and is infected. They referred us to an oral surgeon and I need to call on Monday. He has a prescription for the chlorhexidine to get him through until he sees the oral surgeon...

    Wisdom Teeth Infected?

Hi all... Sorry I haven't been around much; things are going well here so we like to pretend that Crohn's is a figment of our imagination for brief periods of time. :) Taking DS in to the dentist this AM for an unplanned visit. The last two days he's had very swollen gums around his last...

Concerned Parent - Need guidance in steps to diagnosis

I'd see a pediatric Gi, especially since this has been going on for awhile and there is a family history. Let us know how it goes!
