I saw my GI yesterday and just realized now she gave me a 14 months supply of Entocort at 9mg a day...this strikes me as being not right? I do NOT want to be on steroids for 14 months!!!!

Maybe it's 14 months including the tapering off?? I would definitely call your GI and double-check, maybe the pharm made a mistake, or maybe the GI did.

I see her again in a week. The pharmacist asked me about the RX too and was like "this seems weird" so it wasn't the pharmacy. I am skeptical of this doctor anyway...

Yes, I would be too. I had a doctor that kept me on a 9mg flare dose for four years. I ended up with fractures in both hips, bone spurs and osteoporosis, and I need Aradia infusions. Needless to say I got a new GI.

So you can by all means start the Entocort so you feel better, but I wouldn't trust any doctor that wants you to stay on it for that long. My GI doctor says six months MAX.

Even AstraZenica says 8 weeks at 9mg and then 3 months at 6 at most. This same doctor said to me "There is a small risk of the hip joint necrosis, so if you have bad hip pain you have to go to the hospital. But - you don't walk anyway." It wasn't a joke either, she was serious! It is true, I don't walk but still...you don't say things like that!

Oh my God! She actually said that??? True or not, that's harsh. And just because you don't walk doesn't mean you're OK with developing hip joint necrosis, eeek. Time to upgrade your doctor methinks.

Not sure how to help you, but yes, the hip issue is real. I have talked to a number of people who have it.

I don't have it, I have taken entocort (together with augmentin) but only for 2 weeks, people who have issues are the ones who go on it for several months.

agree, you don't say stuff like that

I am going to be switched to another GI anyway. This one decided pretty fast that she wasn't equipped to deal with me and that I needed to be in a hospital based clinic instead of a private practice. She already referred me to someone else but she is going to continue to follow me until I am set up with another doctor.

If it had been my GP who said that, I would have laughed. If the relationship is established I am totally fine with jokes. I am not entirely sure if the GI was joking or serious though and regardless it was inappropriate!
