I met with the GI Specialist today for the first time. He asked the typical questions and suggests that I have crohn's related symptoms. Also, due to the pain in my LRQ he suspects it is in my TI. He is also suggesting this because of my B12 deficiency. I had more bloodwork done today.

I have lost 4lbs in less than a week due to my most recent episode (Monday) and now I am constipated!

He mentioned that diet doesn't play a factor in who has crohn's but it can make things worse. I left feeling a little confused on that one! I've decided to take some time off work until the tests are done as he didn't prescribe any medication.

I have a scope scheduled for next Friday. I wasn't expecting it that soon! I have a script for "Pico-Salax T Bos" (no idea what this is) and 4 tablets of Dulcolax. :eek2:

I am glad that he will be moving quickly onto the scope. That should help with sorting out meds and proper diagnosis I would have thought. I wasn't given meds for about a week after my diagnosis but after the follow up appointment things just fell into place. I hope that happens for you too. Good luck for Friday

With regards to the diet stuff, my understanding is that food can't cause inflammation or make it worse, but certain foods can trigger or worsen symptoms because they're irritating on an already inflamed gut. Stuff like high fiber foods are hard to digest and are rough on the intestinal walls and can make you feel a lot worse, even if it's not actually causing or worsening inflammation.

Good luck with the scope! Keep us posted on how it goes. I hope you get some answers!

Pico Salax is the same as PicoLax that I was given for my colonoscopy! It doesnt really have a nasty taste or anything horrific to warn you about, but when it says have access to the toilet at all times it sure does mean it!
Dulcolax is just another form of laxative to boost "Clearing" you out in preperation for the scope.
Good luck and dont worry!

When I went for my barium enema I was told to pick up pico-salax at the pharmacy. The lady working told me I could use purg-odan which is the exact same thing but over 10 bucks cheaper! haha.

After the first sachet nothing happened for 4 hours which made me think "is there something wrong with me? I thought I was supposed to be strapped to the toilet.. I feel fine.." well by the time I drank the 2nd sachet- things were a movin! LOL. Then I had to take the ducolax, then the ducolax suppository. Overall, it was not nearly as bad as I was expecting. The purg-odan didn't taste that bad which was a pleasant surprise!

I have to do this prep again for when I go for my colonoscopy, but at least this time I know what to expect!

Just a tip (things you've probably thought of but I'll stress anyway): have wipes handy, and a good cream for your bum lol. That really helped me after all the wiping. TMI I know- but hey, makes it easier!

Thanks Everyone! I already have wipes on hand...I'm going to have to remember to get some cream though!
