Hi all, I hope you are all ok and keeping well.

Ok, so Danni has been on Imuran for appox 1 month now...She was started on just 50mg...Her bloods seem ok and last week her CR came down to 18 from 28. No side affects on 50mg, well just a couple of headaches and all seemed well.

The Bowel nurse said that becuase the blood were looking encouraging that she could now increase her dose to the maximum of 200mg...Hmm? I suppose I should of said at the time, but I thought jumping upto 200mg from 50mg seemed quite a big jump?....Anyway, since being on the 200mg for 5 days now, Danni is feeling quite Sick, nauseas, and says her tummy hurts a little..she has also lost her appetite.

My gut reaction is to lower the does to just 100mg for the next couple of days untill I can speak to the Bowel Nurse on Monday Moring...Would this be the sensible thing to do, to reduce the dose?...Or should I wait another couple of days to ask the Nurse if this would be ok?

I am sure when we last saw the Consultant that he said the increase would be gradual?...But I am unsure if my memory serves me right?

Any help or thoughts would be much appretiated please...Thank you, kind regards...Lorraine (Danni's Mum)

Hi Lorraine
That seems like a massive jump to me. I started on 25mg, and was increased gradually, 25mg a week to my therapeutic dose. If she's feeling really unwell, I would say yes, go with your gut instinct and lower the dose.

Thank you for your reply...Yes, have gone with gut instinct and reduced her dose to 100mg...I will phone the Bowel Nurse on Monday now.

Thank you for replying to my post :)

I had my dose upped to 200mg earlier this year. I took the 200 mg at once and noticed I was getting headaches - never had any stomach type side effects though. Now I take 100 mg in the morning with breakfast and 100 mg in the evening with supper.

Yes, me too. After I got up to 100, I started getting really bad headaches and nausea, but splitting the dose solved the problem.

Danni did have a TPMT test before commencing Imuran didn't she?

If so then I don't know that going to that dosage would be an issue as such but as hawkeye and Grumble suggested, splitting the dose may well be the answer.

I was told to half dose for a week then to full dose... suffering on full dose, day 6, knackered, stomach/digestion not happy, feel like I'm coming down with things but trying to get to first blood test on monday. Although colleague did say I look the best I've been in a while so perhaps starting to take effect, though sounds early to me, or perhaps all the sleeping I've been doing has been good for me! Return of living dead in oxon!
