Johnnysmom, a member here on the forums mentioned in another thread that her doctor told them not to let her son have any milk products around the time that he was taking his dosage. I looked it up and it turns out that milk products may indeed interfere with the bioavailability of 6-MP and Azathioprine. If you're on either of these medications, you may want to avoid taking milk products around the time you take your dose but discuss the subject with your doctor to see what their take is on it.

Thanks go out to Johnnysmom for sharing this information!

Wow, seems like that is something they might put on the page of the medical description and warning, huh? But not that surprising that they don't. I had never heard this, David, thanks for posting it. I usually take mine with my supper, but do occasionally have things like macaroni and cheese, or dairy type dips with supper, wonder if those would be detrimental for absorbtion.

Interestingly, it's the Xanthine oxidase in milk that causes the issue. Those of you also taking Allopurinol with your 6-MP and Azathioprine, guess what it is? A Xanthine oxidase inhibitor.
