6 MP Metabolites?

So, I just got the results of a test that I have never had done before and my consult just got rescheduled for Nov. 19 and I am awaiting for e-mail correspondence from my doc about my labs, but I will go crazy if I really wait that long....anyway, the test was a 6MP Metabolites test and I was flagged for being low on the 6TG metabolite @ 146 pmol/RBC's. I'm not really sure what to make of it; the standard range is between 230-400. Based on what I can dig up that I understand on the web the Aza is not working?? Can anyone shed some light on the subject for me? Thanks!

There are two possible reasons that I know of. One is that you are not metabolising the aza properly. The other is because it was a 6mp metabolites test, you could be low in something that is specific to 6mp not aza (since 6mp breaks down into aza plus some other stuff).

Other way around Rebecca: Azathioprine is the pro-drug which is metabolised to 6-mercaptopurine and 6-thioinosinic acid.
