Two months ago my 6mp dosage was increased from 75 mg to 100 mg and I am trying to wean off of Entocort. I started with three Entocort pills and then went down to two but now I'm experiencing problems being on just one Entocort pill. Today I called my GI doctor's partner and he told he to go back to taking 3 Entocort pills for the time being.

My question is: How long does it take to find out if increasing the 6mp dosage will help or not? When I first started taking 6mp, it took a good 5 months before the 6mp helped without Prednisone. However, I still needed to take Entocort along with the 75 mg dosage of 6mp.

Hi kh,

The answer is the dreaded, "Everyone is different". Now, there are some tests they could conduct to see if your metabolite levels are in the therapeutic range or not. I would suggest reading up on 6-TGN and 6-MMP and asking your doctor if testing those levels is possible if they haven't already. Because if your 6-TGN is too low, the 6-MP might never work. If they're in the therapeutic range, then chances are you're going to be feeling a difference soon.

I'm in the same boat where I haven't noticed a difference in the 6MP increase (I also went from 75mg to 100mg almost 3 months ago, I'm also on Entocort 9mg). My GI wanted me to try out those two doses for 3 months and see if it did anything. He said that if it doesn't we may have to try Humira. Hopefully it works for you soon. I know my symptoms aren't that bad but if yours are I understand how frustrating it would be. Keep us posted on how you're doing. :)

Thank you, Crabby. I called my doctor. It has only been two months on the new dosage so I will give it more time. I have a scheduled visit with my GI doctor next Thursday. I went to a GI doctor at University of Pennsylvania back in April and she said if this does not work, I should take a metabolite test to see if I could tolerate a 125 mg dosage. However, I don't know if my insurance will cover the metabolite test.

No harm in trying. Hopefully you wont wind up at square one with the whole, "what do we do now?"
