abdominal surgery rehab

Anyone have anything to share about rehabbing after this.

I had a mid-line from the belly button to pelvic bone. Stitched inside and glued outside. It healed great but i am having a heck of time trying to rebuild that muscle group. I am 18 months post surgery and have regained the 40 lbs I lost during the ordeal. I have a basic home gym and trying to direct where that weight goes back and to make as much of it muscle instead of wasted flubber. But man my lower abs are just formless jelly and I am really afraid of riping the muscle around the scar tissue.

How have you coped with having your abs sliced in half and what tips do you have for rehabilitating the mid section?

does the scar tissue grow out eventually? Or is something that major there to stay?

I have the same problem. Have had 3 surgeries, June 2009, Sept 2009 & April 2010 where I was cut vertically from above my belly button right down on each occasion.

I used to have pretty good ab muscles now I have the same problem as you. I do sit ups and currently do 50 morning & 50 night time. while they has strengthened my upper abs, which now look really good again, nothing helps the lower abs. It is all pretty soft still. My scar is very wide, about 1.5cm in width and 10cm in length.

I would be interested to hear of anything that will help.

wow you can do 50! Well I will keep at it then. I am getting pain at the top and bottom of the scar. Sure the muscles hurt a bit just from the strain, but this is a sharp pain right on a hard lump at each end of the incision. The stitches must be long gone by now but it feels like hard little knots at each end and a focused sharp pain.

The surgeon told me he knotted the stitch at each end and worked toward the center with a third knot to tie the lines together. I know it's goofy, but I swear I can feel the knots in there still :(

I am doing my stiups on the bench. Right after I do a set on the upper pulley facing into the bench I place my feet under the weight deck and lean back about 30deg above horizontal from my butt, and then sit up to 90. Can't put my hands behind my head for it. Too much strain. My whole midsection shakes if I try that.
