about once a day i get very nauseated and almost throw up

it happens usually in strings of days, like 4 days in a row every few weeks. usually near the end of the day around 7-11pm

i will feel a cramp coming on, but it does not pass quickly. i know what is going to happen next and at this point i'm usually walking to the bathroom. oddly enough the cramp will subside, but lots of activity will be happening in my abdomen. i'll feel super nauseated and start to feel things backing up on me. a couple of times i've dry heaved. i'll start to sweat. this usually passes in about 2-3 minutes.

the only thing i can do is push around on my abdomen - which make me even more nauseated, but helps this pass quicker. also i have to keep swallowing and breathing very deeply or i know i will surely puke.

once it passes, i feel a little worn out, but otherwise i feel just fine. i'm guessing that it is a temporary bowel obstruction, however when it is happening i'm not feeling much cramping pain. i asked my gastro about it and she said it is common with her patients.

anyone else experience this?

i used to throw up heaps, so much it actually became second nature and i couldn't care less about doing it, cause i felt better afterwards.

hows your diet Karl?
a lot of IBD suffers seem to move onto very low fiber diets (even liquid diets) to make it easier on the stomach to try slow these upset stomachs down at bad times.

my diet is somewhat normal. although i avoid a lot of veggies, nuts, seeds etc. i try to not eat spicy things or acidic foods.

however, i do cheat sometimes, which is probably one of the factors of me getting cramps often. it's annoying to have such a restrictive diet, food tastes so much better when you cheat every once in a while.

ha! every one cheats sooner or later i think:)
its not an easy lifestyle to conform to, especially at the start. after time you start to learn when cheating is going to be a little more accepted by your stomach.

i'll never forget the day in hospital (when i was supposed to be nil by mouth), that my ficance went to put a book in my draw and found a packet of cheese ball chips. i was in so much trouble;)

stick to the good stuff as much as possible, constant cheating will lead you to a really unhealty stomach. trust me;)

I heard of a patient (not IBD related) who was on a NIL by mouth restriction. But, on her birthday.. she was 80+... cleaning staff who adored her, snuck a cupcake with candle into her room. she asphyxiated from it.

now, that's a drastic case... just that theres cheating, then there is CHEATING. If a doc puts one on a specific diet, find out why, AND ask the consequences of cheating. Know what your risks are first. I cheat occasionally, I know the risks are long term, but could be nasty (not prepared for a full colostomy just yet). I guess the point I'm trying to make is that assuming it's OK is just that "ASSuming". don't play coy with your medical team. If you are thinking about breaking diet, or skipping meds, whatever.. keep them in the loop. they are in this to advise you NOT to control you. They have probably heard or seen other patients WHO also don't heed every word... Be 'real' with your doctors, else its a waste of your time and theirs... hmmmm, seems I've gone off on a tangent.

I also get a similar feeling when I am in a flare. My saliva glands go into overdrive too. One of the things that has always helped me is to swish very cold water around my mouth. Sometimes I'll stand with my face down my the faucet, just letting the water run into my mouth. After a while, I can actually feel my stomach settle. And like someone said, it DOES feel a lot better to just throw up.

I don't know if bowel obstructions cause this, but my nausea was caused by ulcerations in my stomach and esophagus.

I hope you get it figured out and feel better soon!

since i've been on the pred, this has nearly gone away completely. i'm hoping the aza will take effect, i have about 12 days left on pred and i'm hoping that when i'm done with my taper, that my symptoms don't come back

I'm not taking any medication at the moment and this happens to me every day. If I don't eat at all I actually feel like a normal person. Once I eat it all starts to go downhill, I start to feel like I need to use the bathroom, usually very quickly. Then comes the nauseated feeling and I break out in a sweat. It is difficult to go to the bathroom. It leaves me feeling exhausted and I usually have to lay down until it passes. It takes about 20 minutes before I feel better. I don't know how to make this better. I've just gotten used to it I guess.

wow, thats pretty much my exact symptoms, but yours seem a little more extreme. you might want to go on a soft food or liquid diet for a while and see if that makes a difference. i know that it makes a difference in how i feel when i'm flaring

I went through a stage of being sick for a while, someweeks it would be once, other weeks it could be different - 2,3,4 times a week.
I always knew when this would happen because I would get an awful ache in my stomach liquid would just come into my mouth, so when that would happen I would always make sure I was near a bathroom.

Since I've been on the Pred I haven't had any sickness apart from when I had my Colonoscopy I was sick every day for 5 days, but my Gastroenterologist told me that it's normal to have a bit of sickness after that and was told not to worry.

The sickness didn't really bother me too much as it always got rid of my pains afterwards.
