I wrote an e-mail to my infection and clinical microbiology doctor, I'm in a bad flare right now and asked him about clarithromycin and rifabutin combination. Sent these articles to him: http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/9096189 , http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/11930899
He said never take the two antibiotic together because they interact. Said look: http://reference.medscape.com/drug-interactionchecker
Thanks.

I know they use subtherapeutic doses in RHB-104; but what do you think? I see RHB-104 as a good option for the future and want to know.Interactions Found
rifabutin
clarithromycin
Contraindicated
clarithromycin + rifabutin
clarithromycin increases levels of rifabutin by decreasing metabolism. Never use combination.
Significant - Monitor Closely
rifabutin + clarithromycin
rifabutin will decrease the level or effect of clarithromycin by affecting hepatic/intestinal enzyme CYP3A4 metabolism. Potential for interaction, monitor.
Thanks.
