So, this happened to me during my first injection yesterday! I was sitting in the chair, reading a book, waiting for the benadryl to finish and I look up and the nurse is inspecting the Pen, takes off the Caps, and tries to put them back on because she was just looking at it (Never seen one before) - and I watched it squirt out on to the floor!! Aah!

We didnt get too mad at her, but my mom did walk over and look at the booklet and went "Yeah, it says, DO not put the cap back on."

I was having an emotional day (oh i love being a girl and it being that time ><) so I actually found this very distressing and began to cry. x[ it definitely distracted me from the real important issue - which was administering and learning how to administer it correctly.

Its just crazy to think about. This medicine costs over 8,000$ - we knew because the first time the pharmacy ran it through, the insurance didnt apply and it came up as 8,000$ (O_O) My mom was just talking about the cost right when the nurse made the mistake, (she felt quite terrible and all because of how I over-reacted, but I wasnt blaming her) so my first thought was, THAT WAS 1000+ $ WORTH OF MEDICINE, THAT SHOULD HAVE GONE INTO MY BELLY! OH MY GOD

But the hospital is going to pay for it/replace it (of course) - thank gosh the box comes with 6 Pens because I would have been Pissed off if I had to wait even LONGER to get these meds (stupid insurance protocols) - anyway, has this happened to you, and isnt it CRAZY to think about spilling a grand on the floor?

:):rosette1:

It's nice of you to not blame her, because I do! What a dope! Ah well, nothing can be done about it now.

haha, it was a learning experience for her. Just like the last time i was there it was a learning experience when I reacted the Remicade. I dont have to go back there though, so thats good. I didn't like the hospital at all, but my gastro for the last 10 years just recently started practicing there, its a pretty old Hospital in brooklyn. :/

I started off on the pen and to be honest I prefer the syringe sooooooo much (I started using the syringe after the pharmacy screwed up the order). You can control how quickly it goes in which makes it a lot less painful. Also I feel like I can warm it up better. I only take a couple minutes to warm it up, but since I can do it between my hands I think it does a better job. I also like not having to worry about a "misfire" with the syringe.

I don't stab, I poke. The instructions say to use a "quick, dart like motion," which freaks me out, so I just ease it in there. :p

Well, I dont know if i should try to convince anyone to let me give a shot at the syringes just yet - let me see if the medicine actually works first !!
Plus the pen really wasnt that bad. I did it in my thighs and stomach and it was tolerable. I had to have interventional radiology drain an abcess when i was not sedated and I cried and screamed for several minutes. I try to compare pain I know I will be experiencing to that, and telling myself, it aint so bad.

Hey if the pen works for you more power to you.

Why couldn't they sedate you for that!? That's crazy! At least you've got something positive out of it I suppose.
