acne stuff

im taking a few things for acne, nothing prescribed just over the counter stuff like clearasil. my face has so much acne from the prednisone. i dont know if mercaptopurine or pentasa could bring on acne. anyways, could any of the benzoyl peroxide, sulfur, or resorcinol interfere with anything?

I use Dermol 500 from my GP. It has antibacterial properties but is also a moisturiser that soaks in and doesnt leave my skin greasy. It can be used as a face wash also.

Dont think any of the stuff mentioned should interfere with your meds but at the end of the day we "absorb" so much through our skin into our bloodstreams who knows how much of it or anything else impacts on us unknowingly.

Devil and deep blue sea as always eh? Hope you get relief soon, can be very painful and uncomfortable too.

I know how you feel...

I am also dealing with some pretty bad acne from Preds...makes my skin super sensitive and hard to shave:(

I've been using a face wash and overnight acne lotion from Neutrogena but I can't tell how effective it is yet. My understanding is that the best you can do is keep your face as clean as possible and make sure you don't get sunburnt or anything like that.

i get the odd zit sometimes.. less often these days than i used to thank goodness... i used to get the horrid lumpy mountains which eventually morph into volcanoes.. two things helped me enormously: drinking tonic water, because the quinine in it really does help clear skin, and using totally perfume & soap free products on my face. if one does appear, i have a gel called Differin, which helps to speed up the spot's progress.

i kept this routine up right through using pred all last year, and my complexion was pretty good.

I tend to break out when my skin gets too dry. I too only use very mild soaps and lotions on my face. I use a brand called Cetaphil for cleansing and lotion. I cleanse before bed and use lotion in the morning and at night.

I tried all of it, had to go to a dermatologist to get like 8 products prescribed, and now it's so much better, and I have no clue what did it, but probably was the antibiotic Doxycycline, as I tried nearly stopping my topical products, and I continued to keep the improvement.

It's strange that you mentioned this,
I've had really bad acne for a few months now. My meds haven't changed a bit. I'm 36 and haven't had acne since I was 20.

I use prescription benzoyl peroxide, though i may have to go on a low dose of antibiotics - we will see how it progresses as I want to avoid the oral antibiotics.

i have been using 10% benzoyl and so far no good.

i tried some mint essential oils which worked well but burned like heck!

One of the reason I had really bad acne is that my body was not doing a good job of releasing toxins. I tried 4 drops of lemon oil in 8oz of warm water for five weeks and I felt very crummy the first couple of days. During this time, (5 days a week for 5 weeks) I also took HOT (as hot as you can stand) baths with essential oils and soaked for 20-30 minutes. The idea is that by sweating this way you're releasing toxins from the INSIDE out. (The sweating you do from exercising is not the same). Let me tell you, the first three times I could only stay in for barely 20 because it was uncomfortable AND my bath tub had a faint yellow tint to it after my bath from the toxins that were released from my body!

*Recommendations:
- 7-10 drops of essential oil per bath (depending on the size of your tub)
- Blend EO with a carrier oil (coconut, olive oil, jojoba, etc.) first to keep the oils from evaporating or clinging to the side of the bath tub.
- Add the oils to the water right before you get in the bath tub.
- Epsom salts also draw toxins out of the body
--> DRINK LOTS OF WATER DURING & AFTER THE BATH.
- I turn on Pandora and listen to relaxing spa music with nature sounds
- I love listening to audio books that I checked out from the library during this time too.
- Part of healing, is making time for yourself.
--> My skin cleared up and stayed clear especially when I was hydrated. Also, from Native American Nutritionals I bought an essential oil blend called Baby Skin ($19/15ml) and I put 10 drops of Baby Skin in a 5ml bottle and topped off with jojoba oil (this oil is most similar to the sebum/oil our skin produces). The results are amazing! I also love how people who've known me for years tell me that my skin looks great and that I "glow." (YAY!!!)

*I'm not a doctor. These were the protocols that I followed and they worked for me. :)
