Adhesions

Had a colonoscopy about 18mths ago & the specialist couldn't go any further because of Adhesions.
A new one on me @ that stage TBH-never heard of them.
Anyhow afterwards on looking the word up I was astonished to see pictures of what looked like a spiders web of scrawny sinew inside the abdominal cavity. It was what was making my stomach feel hard & tight as well as strictures & both were sorted last op Aug last year.
Another little risk we have to put up with on the journey I guess. Anyone else had problems with Adhesions, nasty side effect of previous surgery.

1997 Right Hemicolectomy & Resection
2002 Laperotomy & Resection
2010 Laproscopic Ileocolic Resection

Been on Azathioprine & Pred

Currently on Entocort 3mg every other day
Humira 40mg every two weeks
Calcichew
Pentasa 4gm daily
3mthly B12 Jabs

Hi Grant,

Yes mate i had two adhesional ops, basically explained to me as the very same as ivy growing on a house.

It is the bodies way of trying to repair itself and they anchor everything which unfortunately can grow around the bowel and create a narrowing.The thing is that they don't cut them away because they grow back so they divide them to take the strength out of them.

Nightmare and i may be heading for a third with the damn adhesions. I was also told that if you get them once you are more likely to get them over and over.

Total pain in the ass.

bruscar, its a swine alright. When I was diagnosed back in 85 I never dreamed of all these complications that can occur. Hope things turn round for you, it looks like you've been through the mill.

Hi,I'm only new to this site,I've been suffering with adhesions for many years,the result of many ops through a disease called endometriosis,I have never found anyone who has had adhesions,I've been on pain meds for a ,long time, its got worse recently,now I can't work,trying to get the docs to do something, every time I end up in A and E,I tell them I have adhesions and then I get told,there is nothing we can do,if we cut them they will grow back,no ****,I'm at my wits end,my best friend thinks I'm putting it on,that its all in my head,I'm tired of being stuffed with drugs and sent home,I would appreciate any advice, help,miracle,anything
