I was just diagnosed with early, mild Crohn's Disease in the terminal ileum. I'm taking methotrexate and entocort.

What advice do people have for someone who's just been diagnosed, ie diet, lifestyle changes, meds, etc. What do you wish people had told you when you were first diagnosed?

Also, if I have mild Crohn's is there a possibility it might stay this way and not progress to more advanced forms that require surgery?

My advice for someone who's newly diagnosed is to not over analyze your symptoms or what may be causing them. It will only serve to stress you out and and 9 times out of 10 you'll come up with the wrong 'solution' anyway. Also pay attention to the doctors and what they say and always write down any questions you have for them before your appointments and don't be hesitant to pester them until they give you an answer.

As far as diet, everyone has different trigger foods. To help me figure out what these are, I keep a food diary where I also record my BM's and symptoms. It can take some time to figure out your no-no foods, but it is helpful.

Reducing stress is key. I notice if I am stressed out, my symptoms always are worse. Granted, this is easier said than done.

Don't take NAIDs (Advil or Motrin)!

And as far as your Crohn's progression, I think every case is different. Most important thing is to take care of yourself, take your medication, and regular see your GI.

Good luck!!
