Alcohol and IBD

Can anyone drink with IBD? With christmas coming up I wonder how people go on. I;ve gone off drink over the last few years and now I know why, but have had the odd one. Sometimes it affects me, other times it dosen't. I had a bacardi and coke the other night. Wow did i feel rough yesterday. On the loo. But im suffering from post viral fatigue as well so not sure which it is affecting. I had a lager and lime a while ago and was fine. I love a glass of wine with chrimbo dinner but not sure, Just wondered how everyone else goes on.

Ahhh the dreaded drink lol

I would love a drink over Xmas I seem fine while drinking but then I know I'm in for it badly the next day with serous diarrhoea and pain plus I'll feel like I've got the flu !

So really yes I can drink but I know I will suffer for it big time so I avoid it at all costs !
That's a thought, why does alcohol affect us all so badly does ne 1 actually know ?

before having my ileostomy I used to drink every weekend and provided I wasn't already in a bit of a flare then it didn't really affect me to much at the time other than the expected hang over, Whether it made things worse long term I don't know. I think alcohol can be a known irritant of the bowel lining so won't be good news for anyone struggling with inflammation but so long as its ok to drink with the medications your on, then I can't see what harm having a sensible amount of alcohol would do.

Hi Lara,

I don't drink that much anymore due to my stomach but I did a few nights ago for my work xmas do...still paying for it now in pain :-(

Hmm I don't have a problem with alcohol at all thankfully. Although I don't drink very much at all.
