Reese was diagnosed in December and started Imuran on Dec. 31st. January was horrid - with a sinus infection that would not go away (lots of fun learning what antibiotics work during a flare), tons of food aversions and erythema nodosum. In late January, we went on 5 days of prednisone to try to improve things before switching to Remincade. The prednisone did the trick and the Imuran began working. We've even been able to add dairy back into her diet. At our appointment today, Reese was up 5lbs and 1inch since our first appointment with the GI in November. So happy!! For us, it appears we are one of the lucky ones with Imuran. Bloodwork to be done next week at the 90 day mark of beginning Imuran to confirm things are improving.

Just wanted to share.

Thanks so much for the wonderful update Cupkatemom! :dusty:

I hope with all my heart the appointment goes wonderfully well and the bloods are the icing on the cake to what you are seeing in front of you. :ghug: Good luck!

So - bloodwork complete and she is still anemic. No loose stools and bowel habits are back to normal. What could be causing anemia?

Prolong inflammation can cause the iron stores to be depleted which can in turn cause anemia.
It takes iron stores a long time( 3 months) to be built back up.
DS started iron supplements in Jan we retest next month.
Crohn's kids also have a hard time absorbing the supplements .

It took us almost to 2 years to get rid of the anemia completely.

Are the haemoglobin levels heading in the right direction?

Are the iron levels improving?

Thanks! Last draw we went up to 11.4 but now we are back to 10.6. I have not done the best job with the iron supplements--but will rectify that.
