Almost passed out, extreme sweating

The most disconcerting thing happened to me. I was finishing showering and suddenly started losing sight like a blackout so I calmly finished and got out. I was then extremely out of breath and breathing hard, with sweat pouring from every part of my body even my face as if I just ran a marathon. I had my boyfriend grab me some applesauce, salty rice crackers and a gatorade to help because I didn't know what else to do. I was super shaky and sweating and breathing hard like this for about ten minutes. I lay on the floor and continued to eat and drink and finally it all went away and things were normal after about 15 or so minutes of this profuse sweating, shakiness and half blackout sight. I was then able to get up and act like nothing had happened. What in the world was this about?! It scared me and him very much and is not normal for me at all.

I had eaten breakfast before showering, I am taking meds as prescribed…

The only thing I am wondering is whether or not this is a cumulative side effect of Mezavant since it has been about a month of my taking it now, or a side effect of Feramax which I have just started as of five days ago due to extreme fatigue.

Any help or thoughts is very much appreciated! I am rather worried about this.

Cheers

That sounds pretty similar to an experience I had when I was very low on iron and had low hemoglobin. Since you're taking Feramax, it looks like you already might suspect that -- have you been able to see a GP about the fatigue and faintness you experienced? It might be a good idea to get your blood checked to see if you might need a transfusion to help you along.

I don't really suspect Mezavant, though I never really had any side-effects while on 5-ASAs.

I hope you're all right!

Yeah, this implies either very low hemoglobin or hypothyroidism. It wouldn't hurt to have your vitamin B12 levels checked also. You 100% need to see your GP about this.

These are also the symptoms of pulmonary embolisms. Deep vein thrombosis seems to be a side effect of Crohn's. If it happens again, or you're not feeling well, I think a trip to the emergency room might be a good idea.

I have had a few scares exactly how you describe and it's very frightening to say the least. Are you sure you were hydrated and not losing too much through diarrhea? I think also if the temperature in the shower is too hot that can make me very dizzy and tingly.

I had symptoms somewhat similar to those (not as bad I think) when I had an iron deficiency. I would definitely see a doctor, what you described sounds serious

I too had those symptoms and it turned out to be low blood sugar. That is somewhat consistent with you feeling better about 10 minutes after eating. Once digested food enters your bloodstream it is as if nothing ever happened. Not fun and very scary. Talk to your doc.

if you're extremely anemic or had a sudden loss of blood, you'll black out, I've had it happen once

the sweating, I don't know, it happens in crohn's disease because TNF-alpha is an endogenous pyrogen, one of it's functions is making you have a fever, but that is usually tied to a biological clock, it usually happens at night for various reasons, not like you're describing
