Wow you are sedated so it is hard to say but not long, I usually wake up in the room. My you are scared huh? Dont worry it will be fine.

This is true, but some people take a long time to wake up after surgery.

And trust me I have had many!!! Never remember ICU unless it is day surgery, then I remember, cause I hate anaethesia!

I was not in ICU, however I was in what was referred to as a "Step Down" unit. I have severe obstructive sleep apnoea. As such they had issues bringing me out of sedation and raising my O2 levels. I was there for maybe a day or so.

Not to my knowledge. I was in ICU only two hours, then moved to a private room. They let me sleep it off for a day and a half.

It all depends on what surgery done, whether emergency or elective and if you have any significant risk factors.

Here you don't go to ICU following routine, uncomplicated surgery, you go to recovery.

My daughter was in ICU for 24hrs but that was following emergency surgery. My son, following planned surgery, was in recovery for two hours before being brought up to the ward. Two hours is a fairly standard time when there are no complications.

Dusty. :)

I didn't go into ICU at all!! I was in recovery for about 4 hours but only because the ward wouldn't come and get me for some reason. I remember getting pretty impatient!

After emergency surgery I was in ICU for 3-4 days. I guess I was pretty bad off and also needed blood and platelets.
But, I think that is the exception and not the rule, hence I am exceptional :)
