Whole family has strep!!! All on amoxicillin, after second dose I have all kinds of digestive rumblings and light diarrhea. Read several posts here that suggest probiotics with the use of antibiotics. Some say to take after done with the antibiotics since the diarrhea will flush it out anyway. Others suggest to start right away. What experience have you had one way vs the other?

I already take one probiotic a day -- would increasing to two a day seem reasonable?

I am taking augmentin same thing
Advised to take probiotics either side of 2 hrs before or after taking AB.
I think taking them during AB helps the good bacteria get established and not the bad guys like c diff.
Works good for me. Usually take them at bedtime
Make sure you get the best probiotics you an find or afford.

I took augmentin which is amoxicillin-calvulanic acid before i developed crohn's disease. You are going to need to increase you vitamin d intake and fiber consumption like whole grain oats and fresh fruit(not fruit juice) while reducing meat, eggs, excess dietary fat from animal sources, excessive omega 6 fats like corn oil, artificial sweeteners. the good bacteria need fiber to grow and fight the bad. probiotics may help as well, most store bought yogurts have no live bacteria in them high quality supplements from health food store refrigerated products will fare better.

or just avoid antibiotics all together and improve your health instead of depending on a medical system that is in need for reform.

So in a nutshell its seems very likely that antibiotics are one of many toxins we are exposed to that destroy the good bacteria in our intestines, and fecal transplants seem to restore these good bacteria reversing the disease. see link below.

Well, with the entire house having strep I'm dealing with the antibiotics or else we will just keep re-infecting each other. I've increased my probiotics from 1/day pre-anitbiotics to 3/day, making sure to observe the 2hr before and after window between the two types (thanks, Robrich). I also am doubling by D3 and increasing fiber a bit. (thanks Wild Bill).. can't do too much too fast or I will flare up! Seems to be helping a bit, light D but not out of control. Seven more days!
