Hi Guys

Just wondered if anyone out there has/is experiencing having to pass alot of mucus with a ileostomy. I had a ileocecal bowel resection and temp ileostomy for bad perianal disease in Sept 2011. I lost nothing from my bottom for 9 weeks after surgery and never had the urge to go then all ov a sudden nearly every other day Im needing to pass this yucky smelly stuff. Its a problem for me as its realy irritating my perianal fistula and causing alot of pain. Ive had a temp ileo before back in 2003 for 4 months but can only remember having to pass mucus once. So this seems a bit odd to me! Im currently waiting to start treatment with remicade and methotrexate to try and heal my fistula!! Just hope it works tried azathioprine years ago and ended up with pancreatitus so am a wee bit nervous!! Any input muchly appreciated :)

I do pass mucus regularly. The only thing to make sure is that it is not infectious (as you mentioned it to be smelly, mine is clear and does not smell bad). So If I were you, I'd signal it your GI/surgeon, especially considering the beginning of Remicade+Methotrexate. Just to be sure there is nothing wrong with that.
I hope everything will go smoothly for you and these new treatments!
Good luck :)
