Tested my blood, hemoglobin level is 8.3 . I'm badly anemic and need iron infusions. After I get the infusions, when will my hemoglobin level become normal? Does it take months?
Thanks in advance.

It shouldn't take months in most cases. I've been on both Venofer (most common iron infusion) and now am on Feraheme (less common, but I became allergic to Venofer). Both bumped my iron and ferritin up considerably after only 2 doses and I felt better after a week max.

Mine are done at the hospital's infusion clinic, just in case you have a serious reaction the ER is right there.

Do you take an iron tablet?

This helps when you really need them.

However when my daughter started bleeding heavily last month she had to be admitted and receive 2 pints of blood. Her hemoglobin was 6.7.. brought it up to 8.7..

Hope you get things under control soon. :)

I had Venofer infusions annually few years back. 8-10 doses couple of times a week if I remember correct. It did help a lot after few infusions. Brought my levels back and that lasted for almost a year. Last few years I have been able to gain my iron levels normally and dont need the infusions anymore. Iron tablets and other stuff made my stomach really upset. Only thing I tolerated besides infusions was Maltofer drops.

I recently had an iron infusion (sorry don't know what type) when my HB was similar to yours. It went up by about .5 a point per week. I haven't reached the minimum level yet (11.5 I think) but do feel as though I've finally have some more air. My anaemia was caused by AZA though which was still in my system so it might be quicker for you.

I had mine done in the hospital too.

A month after I finished my infusions. (A series of 3) my Hb was normal at 128 (or 12.8 depending on your system)
