Hi,
After struggling for 4 years with fistulous Crohn's disease I was finally able to get it into remission with a combination of Remicade and Imuran last year.
On New Year's Day I slipped and fell on some ice while walking around Chicago. I broke my ankle in a way that requires surgery and 2.5 weeks of bed rest.
My biggest concern is the risk of infection or complications because of Imuran. I know that the colorectal surgeons really don't like to operate on immunosuppressed patients because of that risk, and I don't know if my ortho surgeon is fully considering the risks/ benefits of surgery. I asked him about this and he seemed somewhat clueless. I'm pretty sure he didn't even look at my chart before deciding surgery was happening. I contacted my PCP and my GI but they haven't gotten around to me yet.
Has anyone had surgery like this? What are your thoughts?
