We were going for a walk yesterday and were thankfully almost home when Izzi had to GO. Fortunately, we made it  It happened again today at a park, and again, thankfully, we were not too far from a "resting" room ;-)
This is something we didn't run into this winter...we sort of stayed close to home. However, I don't want her to always have to stay at home.
I have ordered a travel potty (she picked it out) that I plan to bring with me when possible.
She's four, though, and this will only work for a short while. :)

SO here is my question...how do you handle it? Where do you find restrooms? Any tricks from you experienced folks??

Can she wear a pull-up when you are going to be out for a while? When I'm having a flare, as an adult, I wear a "pad" just in case I am not near a bathroom and have an accident. It makes me feel more secure so I don't get all stressed out about being out and not knowing where there's a bathroom.

I hadn't thought of that. Although if I bring a travel potty with me, she can give me enough notice (as long as I can find a semi-secluded place to use it, although I'm not choosy).
I guess a guy dh works with has some sort of card that says he has crohn's and that people HAVE to let him use their restroom...I'll have to find out where he got it.

Hey Angie,

My kids didn't have Crohns as young as Izzi but I reckon the pull ups aren't a bad back up measure. I guess if you want to go somewhere that isn't familiar to you perhaps you could suss out where the toilets are before you go if possible. Like you say, the potty issue won't be a long term solution and in many cases the pull ups may be a tad limited too, self esteem wise.

The Can't Wait Card is issued when you become a member of the Crohns and Colitis Association here. Not sure if it is the same in the US.

Sorry I can't be of more help...

We've used a lot of public bathrooms. If you're on the road, you can usually find a good bathroom to use in hotel lobbies. And it might be a little awkward for you the first time hustling in past the front desk, but all is well that ends in the toilet.
