It seems there is a medicine out there targetting the theory the Crohn's is caused by MAP. Myoconda®, the Company's Anti-MAP therapy for the treatment of MAP in Crohn's Disease is a combination of three registered anti-mycobacterial drugs - rifabutin, clarithromycin and clofazimine. These three drugs are widely marketed world-wide for the treatment of mycobacterial and other infections. Myoconda® presents these three compounds in a specific patented combination.

Myoconda® is based on the proposition that MAP infection is a significant factor in Crohn's Disease. Prof. Borody has long been at the forefront of this approach, which is gaining increasing acceptance among gastrointestinal specialists worldwide. Prof. Borody has published significant data demonstrating that patients treated with anti-MAP combination therapy such as that found in Myoconda® experience long-term remission of clinical symptoms and inflammation, some for up to nine years.

Has anyone tried such therapy?

I was under the impression that MAP was still a 'debated' theory, and not yet widely accepted. If BIOTECH is the registered patent holder/trademark owner, then I'd take anything they profer as evidence with a grain of salt (that is to say I'd be sceptical until the 'mass' of independant study either confirmed or denied their stance, and until the drug combo is given approval)

I used Chlorine Dioxide to kill off all anaerobic bacteria in my intestinal tract and body. It probably would also kill MAP, but have no way of testing to see if I have it, or if I killed it off. I did get an improvement in my BM. That is all I had to go by as my symptoms were minimal. I also expelled some parasites as a result of use.

Chlorine Dioxide is used for water treatment because of its ability to kill a wide spectrum of pathogens. Using it in a manner as I did, has been done in the short term by quite a few people with no reported safety issues. The safety of long term use is still unknown. Dioxychlor is a different product than the one I used, but is the same chemical in a weaker form. It has been used both orally and inter venously with no safety issues that I have found.

Chlorine Dioxide is an interesting, but experimental treatment for many diseases. It is being used by a few people for Cancer, HIV, Lyme and other diseases.

This also goes by the unfortunate name of MMS or Miracle Mineral Supplement.

This theory seems to come and go. I wish they can find something.

Once in my diagnosis , I was taking a second opinion and the doctor suspected I have ileo-cecal tuberculoses instead of Crohns' from the CT images. But the theory was discarded as I got better on steroids and immunosuppressives, and if I had Tuberculoses I would have become much worse due to weakened immune system...

But after this theory, and noting that MAP causes symptoms and intestinal infection similar to intestinal Tuberculoses, maybe it's the cause of my Crohn's. I discussed this with my doctor, but he said without FDA approval he cannot reccommend such treatment.

So what I'm doing is trying to minimize MAP exposure by only consuming yoghurt, homemade from UHT milk (this surely doesn't have MAP) as a dairy source... Also I read in the book "Restoring Your Digestive Health" that goat's milk doesn't have MAP, but I don't know if this is true......
