antibiotics triggering crohns?

in my case there was a strong link i developed health problems constipation the diarhea directly and the following months of taking amoxycillin.

has anyone had similar experiences or any link to antibiotics?
some science suggests there is a strong link as a risk factor.

Science does certainly suggest a link, as with ibuprofen and MAP-found in milk- bacteria.

My own personal view is that, bearing in mind the vast numbers who do the above, and the % that develop IBD, there has to be something else at play rather that a direct cause and effect. Perhaps there is a genetic weakness/pre-disposition for example when combined with one of the above.

Hopefully one day soon theories will be proven and tests developed to try and prevent IBD!

i agree, simply taking antibiotics doesnt guaranty IBD. variables like the type of antibiotic used, the duration of its use, and the condition of your bacteria flora before taking antibiotics as well as your diet quality at the time. all these variables would affect the possibility of antibiotics to eradicate certain strains of bacteria that are crucial to a stable functional gut. i am frequently intrigued by the existing evidence for Fecal bacteriotherapy/fecal transplant technology/treatment for various g.i. diseases. there is good evidence for its success in c. difficle infections, U.C and i found one report for its use for a patient with crohn's disease with a C.diff infection which eradicated both and the patient avoided colectomy. here is a link http://www.springerlink.com/content/t4834361221212u1/
