My 18.5 year old son has crohn's. Diagnoised in 2007.

2011 had resection, on cimzia and maintaining good health. My question is in Canada do they use cimzia for crohn's. I am looking for as much information as possible, as this drug is the one that works for James and he is allergic to the other TNF blockers.

Meds at the moment.
Methotrexate 1cc injected weekly.
Cimzia 200mg every two weeks
Folic acid.

Before surgery James was 104 pounds 5 8" Year later 5 11' 140 solid muscle.
We are moving close to London Ontario, and any advice or info would be appreciated. My son, is battelling forward and refuses any form of councelling or groups at the moment, so, I do the research and get the info. Thanks so much.

Hi Sheila :) Welcome to the forum!

Glad that you're son is doing well! My understanding is that Cimzia has not been approved for crohns in Canada - but, sorry, I'm not 100pct sure of this??

Even if this is the case, as it's your sons current treatment, I'd hope there is a process that will allow him to continue!

Do you have a referral to a GI in London yet? If yes, I would speak to the GIs office. If no, you could try to get the info, and perhaps a reference for a GI from CCFC.

This forum also has a doctor directory (tab in menu items above) or try www.ratemds.com to try to find a GI.

Good luck!

I was just at a GI appt today with my 8 yr old son, discussing maintenance meds. We are just starting this journey as my son was just dx'd in March and is still on Prednisone. He tried Imuran but could not tolerate it. I asked the GI about Remicade, Humira, and Cimzia, and he said he prefers to try Imuran, 6mp, or MTX (which is what we're trying next for my son) first, before the biologics. But it did sound like they are definite options for us. We are in Nova Scotia, but I assume the same is so in Ontario?? London is a nice city, by the way. I lived there many moons ago. I hope you like it... and snow...
