anyone ever had fibrin glue surgery?

I had the fibrin surgery and am still having issues. Has anyone else done this surgery? What was your healing like?

What do you mean, did you have a perianal fistula blocked with fibrin glue, or some other procedure?

Yes exactly, in treatment of an abscess that occurred twice in the same spot. After the second incision to drain it the surgeon opted to go with the fibrin glue as the area just would not heal correctly.

Ah okay. Yes, it worked for me. However my surgeon was very surprised as in his experience fistula's are incredibly hard to fix and fibrin glue was no better than other techniques. Easier on the patient, me thinks, as some of the more radical surgery options don't sound like they are much fun.

The more radical ones scare the heck out of me. Im wondering after you had the surgery, how long to heal? Did you experience any pain? How long did it drain? Im close to 5 weeks after and still having daily pain until it "bursts" and relieves the pressure. Its driving me crazy! Lol

It has failed then. Sounds like you are still ulcerating and forming internal abscesses, which cause pain and eventually burst.
You need to go back to the surgeon for a follow up.

I didn't have any pain post-fibrin - it worked immediately.

my consultant advised me against the use of glue for fistulas in patients with crohns. When I had my first fistual (3.5 years ago) we discussed this option but he didn't think there was enough evidence of this in crohns patients to go forwards.

I'm now having another operation for a fistula (same one hopefully) on Monday and again we discussed the options. He said that there was evidence that it was less successful in patients with Crohns disease and that he would advise sticking with sutures.

After my inital operation I had no pain (other than mild discomfort when going to the toilet for a couple of days). There certainly wasn't anything like what you describe (your description sounds exactly like my experiences before I had the surgery).

I would get back to the surgeon asap

I believe the belt and braces approach is to put a stitch at the op of the internal opening and fill the tract as far as possible with fibrin to seal and encourage tissue regrowth.

Anyone else had fibrin glue procedure? How did it heal? I hear good and bad but when it doesn't work what are the consequences? Is there any harm or risk in trying if surgery isn't an option? If you have any info please I need help. Crohn's for 32 years and 10 surgeries, done Remicade and Humira (almost died) and now in lifetime TPN (which made my Crohn's go away). I'm a surgical nightmare so it's glue or nada. HELP!
