Hi, since i had my resection a month ago everytime i eat and let me tell u its not alot i have to run to the bathroom, can u please tell me the good news that this will stop soons. if im going out i cant eat the whole day because i know what will happen. Sigh i eat about a pot spoon full of food and thats it, im loosing weight because of it now.can u please tell me your experience with this, i had 10 cm cut from small intestine and the valve. I know its because of the missing valve but how long does it take a normal person body to adjust

Yeah its because of the missing valve, when i flare i have constipation. Im one of the rare ones that have that instead of D. I saw some people on here before talking about it but a few scare me writting they were suffereing that way for a year. I just had my resection about a month ago

I have good news and bad news. I had a similar resection a year ago (see the link in my sig) and this unfortunately has never gone away for me.

The good news is there are things you can do about it. I would say it might still be a bit early at this point, but you can talk to your doctor about your options. When you lose your terminal ileum you lose your ability to re-absorb bile. When bile reaches the large intestine it becomes a powerful laxative. Things that help prevent this are bowel acid sequestrants (like Welchol) which bind the bile so that it can't do that, and fiber supplements (like psyllium or Metamucil) which absorb excess water and help give you more "formed" stool.

A lot of people have had great results with psyllium (you can mix it into a glass of water). There's a thread about it on the forum. My doctor prescribed me Welchol, but I had too many side effects from it.

I hope it gets better for you soon, whether you opt for one of these or not. Good luck!

Thanks ill talk to my doc about using one pf those, i tried imodium but i think it stop working for me, or i have to keep taking two of the tablets or alot more of the liquid. Ill ask him which one is best and the one i can get the insaurance to cover since i dont have the money to keep buying stuff

Ok went to the gi, he thought i had my gall bladder, so i told him no he automatically gave me a prescription for colestid, i hope this works im starving and ready to eat. I wont be on humira anytime soon, they want to hold off on it as much as possible because i just had the surgery so gonna have to wait another month, he wants to see me in 2 weeks to see if the colestid works for me.. i cant get questran ever because it binds my medication he said so im all for using this product he gave me..

Interesting. Did he mention spacing out when you take those? Colestid is also a bile acid sequestrant.

For what it's worth, you can get psyllium in the bulk aisle (you may have to go to a health food store). You can get several months worth for just a couple dollars, depending on how much you use. It might be something to keep in mind for the future.

Did your doctor recommend you use Imodium and does your doctor know how much Imodium you use? I didn't think it was intended for chronic use.

I hope the Colestid works wonders for you!
