Dear friends!

I am new on this forum which i found Fantastic!

I have had crohns since 2009 !! life is rubbish :( but I am coping well :thumright:

Are there any one who has applied for Disability Living Allowance?

I am going tomorrow to teh citizen advice bureau to make an application...

I am single, have no source of funding since 2009 and I need source of income to support my living expneses while finishing my university...

By the way, could you advise any source of funding or charity who might help?

Thanks for your help and cooperation

Sammaria.

I have applied and got refused...I was also on ESA (employment support allowance) and got taken off that as I did not have any bowel issues and I could hear(I also have a hearing aidf) so go figure lol! The Citizens advice bureau will help you though.

Good luck!

I've applied twice & been turned down twice.
As I recall it fell into two categories, Care & Mobility.
I'm reasonably mobile as long as I know where the toilets are. Care side again as I recall was about whether you could take care of yourself or not.
The advice I heard was to get it you must explain worst case scenario everytime. Sorry I cant be more helpful & as as someone else said the UK Govt are really cracking down but sadly that doesn't help those that really need it.
There has been a number of cases of cancer patients being told they have to go back to work when the reality is they are in a shocking state, even a lady whose cancer was terminal. By the time she had successfully appealed the decision & the decision arrived she had died. Caring-I think not.

It's unlikely that people with IBD would qualify for DLA as the main criteria is mobility and the amount of assistance required which usually aren't issues with IBD. If they are affected get medical evidence to back up your claim. Even people that originally got higher level DLA are having it reduced it's one of the governments cutbacks. It's a shame that genuine sick people don't qualify yet there are many people out there perfectly fit and able who cheat the system and get every benefit going.
