My doctor put me on Azathioprine back in October as at the time I had been on prednisaone for about 6 months and she didn't want me to continue with it for much longer.

So I weened off the pred over a few weeks while starting the Aza, problem is it's now nearly January and I'm feeling really bad, I'm beginning to think the Aza just isn't working for me.

Anybody have a similar experience? If so what drug did you go on to next?

Hi Lunitik,

I'm in pretty much the same situation as you, started Azathioprine in the middle of October and have not yet felt any better from it :-(

Do you have any appointments soon with a doctor to see what you might do next?

Hi Rachel

I have an appointment to see my doctor on Jan 27th, I know it's only a month away but I wish I could sort something out sooner.

Do you have any upcoming appointments?

It does take Azathioprine at least 3 months to become fully therapeutic.

How often are you having bloods drawn and are they normal?

What dose of Azathioprine are you on?

Hi Lunitik,

Yeah Im seeing my doc on the 9th Jan so hopefully sort out out something new then but I'm not sure what the next step is exactly!

Just realised I've been on it since Sept. not Oct. so should definitely have taken effect by now I suppose!

The same thing happened to me in august. I was weaning off the prednisone and ended u back in the hospital for 8 days. The doctor said I hadn't been on the imuran long enough it can take 3-4 months to work. I have been off pred now for 4 weeks and have started getting some symptoms again. The doctor had added asacol to my regimen to see if that will work. If not remicade is my next step.
